Woodward Dream Cruise accelerates with activities in Oakland County – The Oakland Press


The annual Woodward Dream Cruise ramps up with car shows, car parades and entertainment in the area.

State-mandated traffic controls are in effect, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, August 20, the official date of the Woodward Dream Cruise. The state order says no commercial vehicles, any vehicles over 10,000 pounds or vehicles with trailers on Woodward Avenue from 8 Mile Road to the Pontiac Loop.

• Audacy’s WXYZ-TV and WOMC 104.3 FM will be broadcasting live down Woodward Avenue all day on August 20th.

FRIDAY, AUGUST. 19

Berkley

• The CruiseFest Classic Car Parade is Aug. 19 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., west on 12 Mile Road, starting on Woodward and ending in Greenfield. Parade followed by entertainment by Denise Davis and Motor City Sensation on Robina Ave., north of 12 Mile, berkleymich.org/calendar.php.

Bloomfield Hills

• The nonprofit Danny’s Miracle Angel Network (D-MAN) Foundation is seeking help from the community for its 10th annual Dreams Come True on Woodward event. D-Man has a goal of providing 100 Dream Rides for cruises with disabilities. The Dreams Come True on Woodward event includes a party, 1 to 4 p.m., Aug. 19, in the back of the Dawda Mann Building, 39533 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills, with live music, food, drinks, mydman.org/events/dreamcruise or call 248-459-1340.

Ferndale

• Ferndale activities coming up Aug. 19, east of Woodward: Ferndale Emergency Vehicle Show is 1-7 p.m.; The children’s play area is from 13:00 to 19:00; The official Woodward Dream Cruise ribbon cutting ceremony is at 5 p.m.; and Lights & Sirens Cruise (starts at the corner of E. Nine Mile Road and Woodward Ave. north to 11 Mile Road and back) at 5:30 p.m. Activities taking place west of Woodward include the “A Storyland of Floats” exhibit, as seen in the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade is from 1 to 8 p.m., and the Rock Stage ‘n Live Entertainment is from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. www.FerndaleDreamCruise.com.

Pontiac

• 2nd annual Woodward Dream Show is 10 am to 10 pm on August 19, M-1 Concourse, Pontiac, over 600 vehicles in 14 different classes with public voting and awards at 6 pm, live entertainment from 3 to 9 pm; track experiences; children’s activities and a panel discussion from 5-6 p.m., featuring Kevin Byrd (Two Guys Garage), Adam Genei (Mobsteel), Murray Pfaff (Pfaff Designs) and Steve Mank (Spike TV’s Muscle Car). Royal Oak

• Performance Park Classic Car Show is noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 19 and 8 a.m. to Aug. 20, Memorial Park, 31050 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak.

SATURDAY, AUG. 20

• SMART is offering free shuttle bus service from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 20 during the Woodward Dream Cruise along the Woodward route between Ferndale and downtown Pontiac. Passengers can board at SMART or FAST bus stops, woodwarddreamcruise.com.

• More than 50 local charities benefit from the sale of official Dream Cruise merchandise and refreshments. Official Woodward Dream Cruise merchandise can be purchased at official WDC merchandise locations and at WDC booths during the event and online at eagraphics.com/wdc/shop/home.

Birmingham

• The Birmingham Business District’s Birmingham Cruise Event is from 9am to 5pm on August 20. This year’s event will take place on the east side of Woodward Avenue along the streets and lot adjacent to Walgreens at 34300 Woodward Avenue.
