Stew tickets available now at local banks; Stew merchandise, quarter tickets on sale at the Chamber office

Now is the time to get your tickets before the 53rd Annual Hopkins County Stew Festival, sponsored by Alliance Bank, on Saturday, October 22nd.

This year, tickets are $8 each or four tickets for $28, if purchased before Saturday. There will be no four-ticket discount on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at Alliance Bank locations, City National Bank locations, Texas Heritage National Bank and Pilgrim Bank, or at the Chamber office, 110 Main St. You can also buy them online at HopkinsChamber.org.
Quarter tickets are $15 this year. They can only be purchased at the Chamber office or on stew day, which is Saturday, October 22.
If you want to wear your new t-shirt or take your stew mug or glass with you to the stew festival, now is the time to get ready. You can now get stew merchandise at the Chamber office!
Be sure to come to Buford Park on Friday, October 21st for Dubb and the Love Machines’ free concert, which will begin immediately following the Wildcats’ home game against Paris.
We will also have a Children’s Zone with bounce houses and Gellyball.
We’ve doubled the number of port-a-potties, added a fourth beverage station, and will have about 30 vendors at our market.
It will be a great day for the whole family!

Volunteer opportunity
If an individual or group would like to volunteer to work in one of the Stew Festival service tents, please contact me at [email protected] or by calling 903-885-6515. Volunteers can help from 9am until approximately 12:15pm
Help with child benefit
The 15th annual Help a Child benefit, which raises money for children’s charities, is on Saturday in October. 15 at the Hopkins County Civic Center. Benefit from the collection will be Texas Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeast Texaslocal host families and scholarship funds of local Masonic lodges.
Events include the IRA Black FFA Store Project Exhibit and Auction, a chili, broth and pinto bean cook-off, a livestock show and a farm team competition. There will also be carriage rides and photos.
One of the main fundraisers is the drawing of a custom Polaris 500 and trailer. Contact Clay Bartley at 903-438-3930 for tickets.
Free mammography clinic
Due to demand, additional appointments have been added to the Free Mammography Clinic hosted by the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation in partnership with CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Sulfur Springs. There are still some places available. If you are an uninsured woman over 40 living in Hopkins County, you are eligible for a free mammogram through this program.
The staff at the Ruth & Jack Gillis Women’s Center, a part of CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Sulfur Springswill welcome women to the clinic on both Saturdays, October 15 and 29.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a great time to schedule an annual mammogram. If you are eligible for a free mammogram, call 903-438-4325 to schedule an appointment.
LEAP Youth Exhibition
Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas is sponsoring a LEAP (Learning Endorsements and Professions) Youth Expo at the Hopkins County Civic Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, October 28th.
The expo is sponsored by Pilgrim’s Bank, RPM Staffing Professionals and the Sulfur Springs-Hopkins County EDC.
Halloween costume contest
Goodwill Industries is hosting a DIY costume contest, October 25-31, for a chance to win a $50 gift card to any Northeast Texas Goodwill store. Use items from Goodwill to make the costume, then upload a photo to their Facebook page.
University Conference at TAMU-Comerç
Texas A&M Commerce Lions
Texas A&M University-Commerce is partnering with Sulfur Springs for CommUniverCity Day on Saturday, Nov. 5, when the Lions football team hosts Northwestern State.
The Lions will highlight and honor local educators, youth programs and residents. There will be on-field photos, hospitality areas, team interaction and a family fun zone.

Epilepsy awareness
There will be an epilepsy awareness fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, November 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Roc at First Baptist Church. The fundraiser will include a car show, vendors and a spaghetti lunch.
All proceeds go to Epilepsy Foundation of Texas.
