Book sale at Alliance
ALLIANCE – Friends of Rodman Public Library will sell used books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, puzzles and board games Aug. 6-10 at the Alliance Neighborhood Center, 405 S. Linden Ave.
The sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 6 will be for Friends of Rodman Public Library members only. Opening hours to the public are from 13:00 to 17:00 on August 7 and from 9:00 to 20:00 on August 8 to 10.
On August 10, shoppers can fill a bag and make any donation they wish. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted, but there will be a 3% processing fee on all cards. Attendees must approach the building from the Avinguda de l’Arc side of the building and enter through the ramp at Door no.
Tin workshop
BETHLEHEM TWP. – Stark Soil & Water Conservation District will offer a workshop for pond owners and managers at 6 pm on August 8 at the fishing pond at the North Industry Sportsman Club, 7825 Beth Ave SW.
Participants will learn about identifying algae and aquatic cover plants to help formulate a vegetation management plan. The recycling district gets a grant
BOLIVAR – Three projects in the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District have received an Ohio Recycling Grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
The nearly $44,800 total will be used for district outreach and education.
The Ohio EPA also awarded a $21,571 Litter and Community Grant to the Wayne County Farm Bureau for a tire amnesty collection program.
Ohio EPA issues more than $5 million in grants to 89 recipients, with $3.2 million specifically for community and litter prevention programs.
Community and Garbage Grants are available to local governments, parks or health departments, state colleges and universities, solid waste authorities, and non-profit organizations or Keep America Beautiful communities to support and expand community efforts recycling and waste prevention. Market Development Grants help companies purchase equipment and infrastructure for successful markets for recyclable materials and related products.

Sensory play time in the library
CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 E. Market St., will offer sensory playtime for children ages 3 and up with a parent or caregiver at 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and 4 and 6 p.m. August
The program includes hands-on activities that help develop fine and gross motor skills. Activities may include materials that may be messy or wet. Some activities change from session to session. Registration is required; call 330-854-4148.
Family movies
CANTON – The Centennial Plaza Film Series will show “American Underdog” on Wednesday, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” on Aug. 10 and “Wonder” on Aug. 17.
Free movies start at 7pm in the center square.
The Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, will screen children’s films “Sing 2” on Monday and “Inside Out” on August 8. Movies start at 1pm and doors and box office open at noon. Admission is $2.
Blount to speak at youth rally
CANTON – Pro Football Hall of Famer Mel Blount will speak Friday at noon at the Community Gold Jacket youth rally at the Community Drop In Center, 1492 Cherry Ave. SE.
The bikes will be drawn for free, but winners must have a ticket and be present when the winning numbers are called. Attendees can enjoy free food and activities such as bounce houses, face painting, water slides and a puppet show.
Bands to perform
CANTON – The Jim Davidson Band will play Aug. 7 and the Hot Cargo Band will perform Aug. 14 at Canton Country Music events at the Polish American Club, 1605 Henry Ave. SW.
The music is from 14.00 to 17.00 h. There is food, as well as a 50-50 raffle and a raffle tree. Admission is $3 at the door and the public is welcome.
Cubers Club at Dover Library
DOVER – Those looking to hone their Rubik’s Cube skills are invited to join the Cubers Club at the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St.
The club meets at 6pm on the first Thursday of each month. Andy Basnett will be available in the library lounge on Thursday to give tips and strategies on how to improve solving time. Enthusiasts of all ages are welcome.
Christian band to perform
JACKSON TWP. – The nine-member King’s Brass Band will perform at the Church of the Lakes, 5944 Fulton Drive NW, at 7 pm Friday. The Christian group has sacred and secular music.
The event is free, but a donation will be made.
Music, children’s events, food
JACKSON TWP. – Daniel Gray, Hot as Funk! will perform a free concert from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Jackson Amphitheater, 7454 Community Parkway.
The amphitheater also hosts free children’s events. Outback Ray and his Amazing Animals will appear Monday from 3-4pm. Jackson Township and the Paul & Carol David YMCA will present a children’s program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Aug. 10. Children will learn about the oceans and discover the creatures that inhabit its waters.
Barb Craven of Craven Dance Studio will lead children in exercise, song and creative movement through music in a 45-minute session starting at noon on Wednesday, August 10.
Food trucks are on site on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. until the free concerts end. Farmers markets are from 3-7pm on Wednesdays until September 28th.
Celiac support group activity
JACKSON TWP. – The Stark County Celiac Support Group will host an indoor picnic at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Lakes United Methodist Church, 5944 Fulton Drive NW.

MASSILLON: The Massillon Rotary Foundation is accepting grant applications through Aug. 31 from nonprofit organizations that sponsor projects focused on health, wellness and other charitable purposes.

Tribute to Twitty and Lynn
MASSILLON – The Lions Lincoln Theatre, 156 Lincoln Way E, will present “Twitty & Lynn: A Salute to Conway & Loretta” on Aug. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Tayla Lynn and Tre Twitty, grandchildren of the famous duo Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, will honor their grandparents in an evening of music and stories.

Rodeo in Minerva
MINERVA – The Minerva Chamber Rodeo will be Saturday at the Brock Avenue Municipal Park.
Children’s activities will start at 3:00 p.m. In the arena, the children’s rodeo events will begin, with pole horse races and preliminaries for the lamb busting., in which children weighing 50 pounds or less compete to see who can stay on a sheep’s back the longest. Helmets and vests will be provided.
The rodeo begins at 7 p.m. In addition to bull riding, bucking bronco riding, saddle bronco riding, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing and breakaway rope, ram breaking finals and calf wrestling for children will take place. .
At 9 p.m., country band 77 South will perform a free concert on stage. There will be a beer garden all day.

North Canton Main Street Festival
NORTH CANTON – The annual Main Street Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on August 13. Starting at noon there will be food and merchandise vendors, music, local performance groups, inflatables, touch-a-truck and AIW professional wrestling performances.
An 80s party with an E5C4P3-Journey Tribute Band concert will be from 8-10pm on the Kempthorn Stage in front of Pav’s Creamery. 720 Market will set up a barbecue-themed side street on North Main Street, and the Main Street Festival will be on South Main Street.
