Toledo Opera is offering a limited number of discounted tickets for ‘Blue’
Toledo Opera is offering a limited supply of discounted $35 tickets for both performances of “Blue” for a limited time. Performances will take place on Friday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, August 28 at 2 p.m. at the Valentine Theater, 400 North Superior, Toledo.
This continues while the reduced price ticket offers last. They can be purchased by calling the Toledo Opera Box Office at 419-255-7464.
“Blue,” with libretto by Tazewell Thompson and score by Jeanine Tesori. is the story of an African-American couple in Harlem who anticipate the birth of their firstborn, a son, with hope and fear. As the baby grows into a young man, the mother worries about his future and the father tries to prepare his son for the realities of 21st century America, while struggling with his own identity as a police officer , a “black man in blue.”
“Blue” places timely themes at the forefront of modern opera and invites audiences into the emotional epicenter of its impact.
Thompson serves as stage manager and Chelsea Tipton II returns to Toledo to direct.

Exchange Club to hear from Boys & Girls State attendees, July 26
On Tuesday, July 26 at 12 noon at the BG Country Club, the Exchange Club will welcome Eddie Eschedor and Julia Reichart to talk about their experiences at Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State, respectively.
American Legion Buckeye Boys State is an eight-day hands-on experience in the workings of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship to one another in the formation of Ohio’s government.
Founded in 1936, Buckeye Boys State is the nation’s largest boys state program with attendance of more than 1,200 youth annually. The Buckeye Boys State program is sponsored by the Ohio American Legion
Similarly, Buckeye Girls State is a week-long program designed to educate Ohio’s young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good citizenship. The Girls State program was organized as a national Americanism activity by the National Convention in 1937. The first Girls State was held in Washington DC in 1947 and is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
For years, the Exchange Club of Bowling Green has been sponsoring young men and women who attend these events, aligning with the club’s focus on Americanism.

Lacrosse fundamentals are the focus of the youth camp, July 26-28
A youth lacrosse camp at Bowling Green Community Center (BG Athletic Fields for participants ages 8-12 July 26-28.
The youth lacrosse skills camp will focus on the fundamentals of the game. Passes, shots, cradles and pick-ups through various drills, competitions and small-sided games.
Sticks and balls are provided or participants can bring their own sticks.

Join the Wood County District Public Library and the Wood County Park District for Fascinating Freshwater Mussels on Friday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the A&B Meeting Room.
Families will learn more about local freshwater mussels from naturalist Craig Spicer and learn about their place in our local ecosystem in this fun and informative talk.

Parks & Rec is hosting a 3-on-3 soccer tournament on July 30
A one-day 3-on-3 soccer tournament will be held on Saturday, July 30 at the Bowling Green Athletic Fields (behind the Community Center).
This 3v3 soccer tournament is for all skill levels and age groups.
The price is $50/team. Grab some friends and join in the fun! Age divisions start at 8U and go through adult.

BGO Pride is organizing the Rainbow Rally on August 6
BGO Pride Presents a Rainbow Rally, Saturday, August 6th, from noon to 6pm on Wooster Green in Bowling Green
LGBTQIA+ individuals, families and allies are welcome to join in a celebration of the gay community.
There will be music, guest speakers, drag acts, food trucks, vendors and information about for-profit groups, as well as games and crafts for kids.

BGHS Drama Club presenting Theater CAMP , August 12
The Bowling Green High School Drama Club is hosting a one-day theater CAMP (“Come and Do Plays!”) for kids ages 6-12 or entering grades 1-8 Friday, 12 ‘August, from 9 am to 3 pm at the BG. Performing Arts Center. Cost is $25 and $22 for additional siblings.

Water & Sewer District will host an open house on August 16th
After two years of cancellations due to the pandemic, The Northwestern Water and Sewer District will hold its open house on Tuesday, August 16, from 3 to 7 p.m., at its offices at 12560 Middleton Pike, Bowling Green .
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about how the district cares for consumers’ water. Staff will be on hand to guide visitors through a tour of our high-tech facilities. There will also be a special presentation at 4pm to demonstrate how the district supports economic development in Northwest Ohio and meet with members of the Board of Trustees.
There will be family-friendly activities including bounce houses, fishing, a caricature artist and giveaways, along with free food like hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and self-serve ice cream. Attendees will also be able to take a photo with the district’s water drop mascot, Drippy.
Library offering snacks for children all summer long
The Wood County District Public Library and Connecting Kids to Meals are offering snacks to kids this summer every Monday through Friday, June 6 through August 12, from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Children and families can pick up their snacks at the Children’s Place counter. at the Bowling Green Library.
