Greene County Days celebrating expanded events in Carrollton, Roodhouse, Eldred House – WWDS

Greene County Historic Days will be held September 9-11. The county-wide festival offers a host of yard sales, barn tours, historical tours and family events throughout the weekend.

The Greene County Historical Society and a few other groups are expanding their offerings this year. Bernie Faul and members of the Greene County Historical Society will serve food Friday starting at 11 a.m. until it’s gone on the patio of the historic Lee-Baker-Hodges House on the northeast corner of Carrollton Square.

Society staff and well-known local pianist and teacher Jeanne Coates will provide entertainment in the historic home’s first-floor dining room. There will be guided tours of the home with special exhibits. You can also buy books and brochures from the Historical Society.

DF Kennedy, a local author, will also be having a book signing of her new novel “The Truth” in Carrollton on the Square Saturday from 10-2.

The Illinois Valley Heritage Association will also offer free tours of the James Eldred House located in Bluffdale Township, 1 mile north of Eldred. Tours of the Eldred House will be free on Saturday from 11 to 4. The house is seeking donations and interest to continue maintaining the 1861 structure.

Roodhouse will host a line-up of talent starting with Midwest Avenue at 6:00pm in the Plaza Park. Free vendors, food vendors, live music, a parade, pageant, bingo and bounce houses kick off in full swing Saturday morning with the parade at 9am. On Sunday morning in Roodhouse there will be a 5K from 8am. The cost is $30. There will also be a church service in the park at 10am.
