Nothing brings more joy to a child’s life than making their birthday wish come true by having a great birthday party at the Y. Kids get excited when they go swimming in the family pool with a corkscrew slide and a mushroom fountain, bouncing on the giant bounce. house, playing dodgeball or Nerf shooters and eating a tasty pizza. Fun abounds at the Y!
Speaking of fun events, the Y’s Fall Festival is scheduled for September 25th from 1-5pm. The afternoon is full of fun and entertainment starting with local and country artist Dani-elle rocking the YMCA with a free concert from 1-3 pm Laura’s Hope Rescue will be there showing adorable and adoptable pets. Fun can be found throughout the Y with bounce houses and fall themed games all afternoon.
The excitement continues with free swimming from 1-4pm A favorite game of young festival goers, the Donut on a String contest is sure to get everyone laughing at 3pm Fall is all about pumpkins and all the young, young and young at heart, can paint one for $5. Come fill your sweet tooth at the Cookie Walk where, for $10, you can fill a container with tasty homemade cookies. The Smoke food truck and The Creamery Works ice cream truck will be on hand to satisfy your appetite.

The Greater Carbondale YMCA is the only Y in the country to have a telemetry system, managed by its wellness staff, that offers free annual heart screenings to its members and low-cost screenings for the community.
The Y is not just a building. It is the community center where people from all backgrounds and walks of life come together to support each other and strengthen their community. The Greater Carbondale YMCA is one of the area’s leading charities. Providing financial assistance is one way the Y ensures that everyone has the opportunity to grow in spirit, mind and body. The Y partners with local businesses and other nonprofits to conduct food and clothing drives, meal drives, blood drives, and COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
The Greater Carbondale YMCA is forever here for the community and forever growing. The lower level of the former Y Building is being renovated to help meet the community’s need for higher quality child care and to help ease the isolation of seniors. When completed in September, it will have two additional preschool classrooms and a senior socialization area.
In 2019, the YMCA built a community park across the street. The park now has a youth playground, a walking path that connects to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Trail, a covered pavilion and a meditation garden. A splash pad was supposed to be built last spring, but rising material and labor costs have the YMCA looking for grants and additional funding sources. Their efforts continue to ensure that the splash pad will be installed in the spring of 2023 ready for everyone to enjoy at the community park.
