Main Street between Allen and Caswell Streets turns into “Sesame Street” from 9 am to 12 pm on August 20 with bounce houses, food trucks, Snoballs, bubbles, hoops, free face painting, balloons, magic and more , along with the Elmo Muppets. and Abby Cadabby, according to a news release.
The “Smart Start Sesame Street Party” celebrates the launch of “Sesame Street in Communities” in Henderson County, an initiative to support parents, caregivers and community providers in their efforts to give to all children, especially the most vulnerable , a strong and healthy start. This event and family resources are aimed specifically at Henderson County families with young children (birth-kindergarten), and families can RSVP by visiting the Smart Start Partnership for Children Facebook page at facebook.com/smartstartpfc.
“We are so excited for the opportunity to highlight the amazing, free resource ‘Sesame Street in Communities’ while also raising awareness of our amazing local organizations that serve families and young children in Henderson County,” he said the executive director of Smart Start, Sonia Gironda.
Dozens of community partners will be on site to share information and activities for families with young children.
Sesame Street in the communities offers engaging songs, games, stories, activities, articles and workshops for parents and other caregivers. These resources help break down the material so that parents and caregivers can understand it and serve their children effectively.
Topics covered on Sesame Street in Communities range from social and emotional development, building healthy habits, school readiness and learning through play to heavier topics that may be harder to talk about with children, such as coping with a death in the family, homelessness, divorce, and drug addiction.
The “Smart Start Sesame Street Party” is organized by the Smart Start Partnership for Children, together with the partners of the READY! Kindergarten Readiness Initiative, which includes Henderson County Public Schools, Henderson County Public Library, Child and Family Resource Center and WNCSource, supported by Pardee UNC Health Care and Dogwood Health Trust.
