This weekend’s big ticket: The Doo Wop Project is coming Robins Theatre in Warren for an 8pm show on Friday.
Tickets, ranging in price from $20 to $45, are available for purchase here and at the Robins Theater box office, 160 E. Market St.
The Doo Wop Project, featuring stars from the Broadway hits “Jersey Boys,” “Motown: The Musical” and “A Bronx Tale,” traces “the beginnings of group singing developed by inner-city African-Americans playing harmonies on the street corner to the greatest hits of today’s radio”, according to the group web site.
The group “takes audiences on a journey from foundational songs by bands like the Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos, through their influences on the sounds of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and The Four Seasons, to DooWopified versions by modern musicians like Michael Jackson. , Jason Mraz and Maroon 5”.

TRIBUTE SHOW: River Rock in the Amp will perform tributes to The Doors and Pink Floyd on Saturday. Morrison Hotel will take the stage at the Warren Community Amphitheater, 321 Mahoning Ave. NW, at 5:30 p.m. I wish you were here will perform at 8:30 p.m. Tickets, which can be purchased at the box office, are $12 and are free for children 12 and older.
CAR EXHIBITION: Broadway Recovery Services will host a car exhibition 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Caffé Capri Italian Bar & Grille, 8000 Market St., Boardman. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature games, a 50/50 raffle and food available for purchase at Caffé Capri. Attendees interested in showing a vehicle can pre-register here. The cost is $10.
CHURCH FESTIVAL: The Maronite Catholic Church of Sant Maró, 1555 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, will host its annual festival from 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Celebrating Lebanese and American culture, the festival will feature Lebanese food, a premium bar, music, a $3,000 raffle, bounce houses, a shoulder tank and carnival games. Entry is free.
McGUFFEY CONFERENCE: Traci Manning, la Mahoning Valley Historical Society commissioner of education, will discuss John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln, at 10 a.m. Saturday in the meeting room at Denny’s Restaurant in Liberty, 4020 Belmont Ave. The discussion is part of the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society’s lifelong memories. series of conferences. Admission is $5 for historical society members and $6 for non-members. The event will include refreshments, live entertainment and a 50/50 raffle to benefit the historical society’s educational mission. Walk-ins will be accepted, but reservations are recommended. LIBRARY, REOPENING OF THE MUSEUM: The Warren Library444 Mahoning Ave. NW, which has been closed for renovations, will host a reopening celebration Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature live music, refreshments and activities for children. The Sutliff Museumon the second floor of the library, there will be a cart search, and visitors will be able to touch and interact with objects from the 19th century and make their own scarf and thaumatrope.
SHAKER WOODS: The 41st edition Shaker Woods Festival, which launched last weekend, will continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 44337 Countyline Road, Columbiana. The arts and crafts festival features food, music, hand-thrown pottery, blown glass, custom jewelry, handmade furniture, handmade soaps and sanitizers, and more. EXPENSIVE COMPETITION: Sunday Salsa Showdown will return to Southern Park Mall in Boardman at 2pm on Sunday. Guests at the event at DeBartolo Commons can sample pasta from nine local Italian restaurants and vote for their favorites. Participating restaurants are Carchedi’s Cafe, Combine Brothers, Donavito’s Restaurant and Catering Co., Double Bogey’s, Lariccia’s Italian Marketplace, Papa’s Italian Specialties, PaPa GeGe’s Italian Villa, Tino’s Italian Kitchen and Woodland Cellars. Greene Eagle Winery, L’Uva Bella and Woodland Cellars will offer wine tasting, and The Avanti Band will perform. Tickets, which can be purchased herethey are $25 and include a sample of each restaurant’s pasta and three wine samples.
AL STEWART IN WARREN: Singer-songwriter Al Stewart i Empty pockets will perform at the Robins Theater in Warren at 8pm on Sunday. Tickets, ranging in price from $29 to $49, are available for purchase here and at the Robins Theater box office, 160 E. Market St. Stewart has released 16 studio albums and is known for songs like “Year of the Cat,” “Time Passages” and “Midnight Rocks.”
DASH & SPLASH: The Youngstown Jewish Community Center will host its fourth annual Dash & Splash 5K on Sunday. The children’s race is scheduled for 8:45am and the 5K run/walk will take place at 9am. The event will begin at the JCC Main Campus, 505 Gypsy Lane, and end at the Logan Campus, 3245 Logan Way. After the race, participants will have access to the Logan Campus, which includes an outdoor pool, snack bar, and volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts. Cost is $15 per person and $20 per family. Elderly Day: Saving our Mahoning Valley elders will host seniors day a senior health and wellness fair, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Covelli Center, 229 E. Front St., Youngstown. The event will feature more than 50 vendors, music, free screenings and giveaways. Entry is free.
MODEL TRAIN EXHIBITION: The Youngstown Historic Industrial and Labor Center, 151 W. Wood St., Youngstown, will unveil updates to its model train exhibit at 2 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a reception at 2.30 pm where guests will be able to tour the main floors of the museum.
EAT A LOT: The Mahoning Valley Mobile Market will make a stop at the Sebring Library, 195 W. Ohio Ave., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday.

SIGN UP TO WIN: Deadline is Friday for teams to sign up for 2022 Paneraton. The deadline for individual pre-registration is Monday. NUN RUN: Registration is open for the Mission of the Ursuline Sisters hybrid Life Run, a 5K race, 1 mile walk and run for kids. The in-person event will take place Oct. 1 at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield. The virtual event runs from October 1st to October 15th and can be completed anywhere. The registration fee is $30 in advance or $35 the day of the race. There is no entry fee for the children’s race. To guarantee a shirt, register here for September 16.
TOUR TO POLAND: The Historical Society of Poland will have one route through six 19th century houses in the village from 10 am to 7 pm on September 17. Tickets are $20, with proceeds going toward the historical society’s efforts to preserve the village’s history, provide educational programs and maintain the Little Red Schoolhouse. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Aebischer’s Jewelry, Consign & Design and The Flower Loft. Tickets will be available at the Village Hall and the Little Red Schoolhouse on the day of the visit.
