The members of the Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club had two very special guests at our last meeting: District Governor Paul Moore and his lovely wife, Karen. One of the reasons for the visit was for DG Moore to install four new members into our club. And that was fantastic in itself. But there was another great reason: the Woodlands Wildflower Festival.
Both Paul and Karen are members of the Woodlands Lions Club and this year their club will help sponsor the 33rd Annual The Woodlands Wildflower Festival to be held on Saturday, November 5th at Rob Fleming Park – Creekside in The Woodlands from 10am at 2 a.m. p.m
The Wildflower Festival is one of the longest running events in The Woodlands. This free event, which focuses on nature and family, features thousands of packets of wildflower seeds of many different varieties that are distributed free to the community by generous seed sponsors. In addition to the seed packet distribution, the festival has other family-friendly activities including a Bluebonnet Planting Ceremony, wildflower crafts, bounce houses, face painting, a DJ, food trucks and more.
But there is something else going on now “as we speak”. The Woodlands Lions Club Art Contest. Contest entries must portray a nature scene in the spirit of the Wildflower Festival. Interested individuals should draw a favorite nature scene on thick, unlined white paper, canvas, or poster board, no larger than 11″ X 17″ inches. Preferred drawing materials are watercolors, oils, pen and ink, pastels, crayons, colored pencils, or markers. No writing should be included on the front of the artwork. Photographs are not accepted.
Entries will be assessed and prizes will be awarded in the following categories: up to four years old, nine to 13 years old, 14 to 18 years old and adults (from 19 years old). First prizes of $100 will be awarded in the four children’s categories. The adult first place winner will receive $300. The Grand Prize winning entry in all four children’s categories will be used in the official reusable bag (sponsored by Bucklew Chevrolet) given away at the festival and the winning adult entry will become the official festival poster.
Tickets must be labeled on the back with name, address, phone number and age (for children’s tickets only). Entries can be dropped off at the Woodlands Township office at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. at The Woodlands. Woodlands Township is open Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:30pm
The deadline to submit registrations is Thursday, September 30 at 5:30 p.m. Winners will be notified the following week. After the contest, all artwork must be picked up in The Woodlands Township by November 30th or it will be donated to a local charity.
