LAPEER COUNTY, MI – The popular small-town, family-friendly Metamora Country Days and Hot Air Balloon Festival returns this weekend for its 41st anniversary with more than 20 hot air balloons to launch and “an extraordinary fireworks display.”
Starts Friday, August 26 and runs through Saturday, August 27 at Harmer Park, 3985 N. Oak St. in Metamora.
The event is free to the public, with some fees required at Lions Field.
Free parking is available at scheduled times both days at Hunters Creek Community Church, 2471 Metamora Road.
Weather permitting, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., the evening sky will be filled with colorful hot air balloons on Friday and Saturday. This will take place at the balloon launch field a few hundred yards south of the Metamora Lions Hall, 3790 N Oak St.
More than 20 pilots will be present to launch their balloons.
The outdoor summer event will close on Saturday night with a fireworks display.
Revelers will also be able to enjoy local food, music, games, art, a parade, crafts and activities during the two days, according to the website of the fair.
Monster truck rides, pony rides, petting zoo, beer tents, bounce houses and live music are some of the other activities scheduled.

Hot air balloon launch: Friday 26 August at 5pm and Saturday 27 August
The launch will take place at the balloon launch field.
The festival invites the public to bring a picnic and enjoy the preparations before the launch.
Fireworks: Dusk, Saturday, August 27
The fireworks show will take place at Lions Field.
