CLOQUET – The Labor Day parade is expected to be nearly double the size of 2021, according to Carlton County Labor Day Celebration Chairman Chad Tuura.
Tuura said last year he had 15 to 20 floats in the parade and this year is leaning toward 35-45.
Since it is an election year, Tuura noted that many of the floats have been presented by candidates running for office.
Unlike in 2021, Tuura said the parade is not the only event taking place over the weekend. The Old Timers Banquet is back and will take place from noon to 4pm on Sunday, September 4 at the Four Seasons Sports Complex in Carlton.
Cloquet Veterans Memorial Park will also host food trucks and bounce houses after the parade.
“It’s always nice when you can get the kids involved and spend some time in the big Cloquet,” she said. “A lot of people walk or drive next door, so it will be nice for people to use some of the local businesses downtown.”
There will also be a car show on Dunlap Island from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m
Tuura said he anticipates a larger turnout this year with the added activities, compared to last year, as residents participate more in community events than in the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Go out and have fun,” he said.
