The San Marcos Mermaids return for the annual Mermaid Capital of Texas festival honoring the guardians of the river. The event is hosted by the Mermaid Society SMTX, a local non-profit dedicated to all things arts, culture, nature and community in San Marcos. The Mermaid Parade begins at 10 a.m., followed by a street fair at the historic Hays County Courthouse. 10 a.m. Free (admission). Hemphill Elementary School will host a classic car show with all proceeds going to Buda’s Brightside, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering adults with disabilities. The City of Kyle will host its annual Founders Parade downtown followed by the City’s Birthday Celebration. The parade, in honor of when the first lots were sold, will begin at Gregg-Clarke Park along Center Street and end on Front Street.
