21 years after her birth at Winona Health, Miss Winona, Mikaela Mohr, is excited to host the Think Pink Winona Community Fundraiser. (Learn more about their connection in the audio above.)
Mohr invites the community to run, walk, shake and roll around Lake Winona’s “Big Lake” this Saturday, Oct. 8, to support the Winona Health Foundation’s Breast Cancer Fund.
Get “pink” during this fun, colorful, timeless run/walk for their second annual event. 100% of the proceeds are donated to the Winona Health Foundation to benefit breast cancer patients and survivors, right here in our community.
Mohr told Z93 that the fund pays for things that are challenging for those fighting breast cancer. like wigs, gas, and grocery gift cards.
Mohr has a very personal connection to the cause. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at Winona Health when Mikaela was in 5th grade, and is now a two-time breast cancer survivor. Mohr added that her mother’s scans came back clean this year.
Mohr’s platform as Miss Winona, in the Miss America Organization, is “More than a diagnosis.” Mohr explained that “it talks about how cancer affects more than just the person diagnosed but everyone. So I can talk about being the daughter of a cancer survivor and what our journey was like together and how we over- ho, because you can also support the person you love when you support yourself.”
Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Unity Park on the west end of the Winona Health Campus by the “big lake.”
The run/walk isn’t the only fun to be had on Saturday. Mohr said there will be Caribou coffee, cotton candy, 3 bounce houses, face painting, hair plaster and more. Mohr also added that he heard a rumor that a sponsor would be bringing in Bloedows donuts…
All of Winona’s mascots will be there for a relay race and the Little Warriors Drums will perform, among other groups and entertainment. The Firefly Sisterhood will also be available to share survival resources.
There will be 10 colored splash zones along the route. The color is cornstarch that comes out with water, but if participants don’t want to splash, that’s also an option.
