1. Wild Children’s Film Festival: Friday, August 5
Take the family to Havenwoods State Forest for 16 short films on the theme of “The Earth.” The event starts with an “animal meet and greet” at 5pm and the movies end around 7:30pm on Friday, August 5 at 6144 W. Hopkins St.
2. Bronzeville week: from Saturday August 6 to Saturday August 13
Bronzeville Week returns this year to celebrate Black Milwaukee culture, history, art and more. The week’s celebration begins on Saturday, August 6 with the seventh annual HaRUNbee, a 5K (run or walk) in support of the National Coalition for Healthy Black Families to 8:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6 at Pete’s Fruit Market at 2323 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Register for the 5K here.
3. Black Arts Fest MKE: Saturday, August 6
Black Arts Fest MKE, a full day of festivities celebrating the deep roots of African heritage, the creative magnificence of Black cultural arts, and Milwaukee’s local talent, takes place from noon to 10:00 pm on Saturday the 6 August at Henry Maier Festival Park (Summerfest). General admission tickets are $15, $12 for seniors and $10 for youth.
4. Sale of neighborhood riots: Saturday, August 6
Get your belongings from your Silver Spring neighborhood neighbors at this rummage sale, which will take place from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, August 6 in the parking lot of Redemption Lutheran Church at 5641 N. 68th St . There is a $5 space rental and a $5 table. rental expenses
5. Historical talk and walk through Washington Park: Sunday, August 7
Learn about Washington Park’s storied past, including its time as a zoo and its connection to New York’s Central Park, from journalist and historian Virginia Small. The tour takes place from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, August 7 in Washington Park. Fees start at $10.
BONUS: Super Saturday back to school festival: Saturday, August 6
This festival offers free school supplies, free youth haircuts, bounce houses, food, free clothing and more. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 at the Church Without Walls in Jericho, located at 8086 N. 76th St.
