The Chillicothe Halloween Festival begins today and continues through Sunday at Yoctangee Park in Chillicothe.
This year’s festival features more than 70 vendors, along with favorite food options, live entertainment from local and regional bands, and an expanded family fun zone, featuring inflatable games and bounce houses, as well as virtual reality pods , two escape rooms, laser. label and more.
Plus, there will be a costume contest for kids and adults, a car show followed by a bag or gift event, the popular coffin races… and new this year: a giant pumpkin drop which offers cash and other prizes.
The festival has also partnered with Giant Pumpkin Growers of Southern Ohio to host the annual pumpkin weigh-in during the festival. In addition to pumpkins there will be other featured vegetables and pumpkins.
Special exhibits and celebrity appearances will include The Goblin Project and Corey McCauley. The Goblin Project is the Green Goblin movie prop made famous in the Stephen King movie “Maximum Overdrive”. The owner of the Green Goblin, Tim Shockey, will display the prop from the film where you can take a photo with the iconic prop.
McCauley is a special effects artist who has worked on films such as “The Bye-Bye Man,” “Gerald’s Game,” and “My Soul to Keep,” to name a few. He was also the creator of the creatures in the films “Myth: Bigfoot Hunters” and “Fighting the Sky”. It will offer masks, props and an assortment of monsters created throughout the festival.
Halloween Festival Committee Chair Gene Betts says the committee has been working hard to grow the festival this year and are excited to introduce all of its new activities and experiences. Betts says it’s definitely a community festival where all ages can come and participate and have fun.
The festival will take place from Friday 7 October, from 11:00 to 22:00. On Saturday, October 8, it will open from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and on Sunday, October 9, it will open at 10:00 a.m. and close the year at 5:00 p.m.
