DEXTER, MI — Dexter’s Apple Daze Festival brings plenty of fall family fun to downtown Dexter.
The annual one-day event, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 in Monument Park, will be filled with bounce houses, kids’ games, live music, pine derby races, a classic car show, hayrides to the Dexter. Cider Mill and Pumpkin Bowls, where people use a pumpkin instead of a bowling ball to shoot pins.
There will also be a handful of food vendors offering pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn and more.
Various prizes are also being awarded for different games throughout the festival, and “the heart of the action” will take place in the early afternoon, said Abby Briggs, president of Dexter’s Apple Daze.
Along with the festivities, there is an apple pie eating contest at 2 p.m. where contestants must race against time to finish the pie first without using their hands. Anyone interested in taking part in this contest can sign up on the day of the festival.
The competition is divided into three age groups: from 8 years, from 9 to 12 years and from 13 years. Prizes include gift certificates to Dexter businesses.
This year, instead of its typical scarecrow contest, Apple Daze will have a painted pumpkin contest. Anyone interested in entering their own pumpkin must pay a $25 entry fee and register here.
