JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Monday is the first day of school for Duval County public students.
On Sunday afternoon there was a back to school event to help children get ready for the school year.
About 200 backpacks were given away and parents were especially excited to send their kids this year. But the students News4JAX spoke to didn’t share his excitement.
We asked a few students if they were ready and excited for the new school year.

“No,” said one.
“Oh hell no,” said another.
But another student said she already loved her class.
“I’m already in 3rd grade and my favorite class is reading,” they said.
The back-to-school party was an opportunity for kids and parents to hang out with their friends and talk about the upcoming school year.
There was free food, a live DJ, bounce houses and free haircuts provided by the Shear Finesse Student Beauty Academy.
A parent who is affiliated with the beauty academy told us why he chose to give back to the students.

“I love kids and I love watching them,” Henry McCullough said. “I was raised in the community and I’ve always wanted to give back where I came from.”
