Bobby Ray Bunch and his wife, Jaqueline, are two people you should know. They’re the power couple behind events like Shops with Hops (the last location was held on August 27th here in Muscatine) and the upcoming Food Truck Fight (coming up on Saturday, September 17th on the riverfront) . The Bunch family loves bringing events to communities like Muscatine, and I for one am grateful for their efforts! If you missed the Food Truck Fight last year, you should be there on September 17th! The event lasts from noon to 8 p.m
That’s how it works, they say www.FoodTruckFight.com/Muscatine: “Enter the event through General Admission on the day of the event or our pre-sale VIP option. Each truck will have a $3 sampler item in addition to the full menu for purchase that day. In addition, we will have a fully equipped drinks tent. Buy your food and drink, and we’ll provide entertainment for all ages!”
General admission tickets are just $10 and will get you access to 18 different food trucks; live music by Doug Brundies, Hap Hazard and Jason Carl & The Whole Damn Band; and some family fun with face painting with the Muskie pom pom team from noon to 6 p.m., balloon animals with stilt walker Toto Johnson, and bounce houses open during the event (12-8 p.m. ). I encourage you to visit the website I’ve included above or search for Food Truck Fight Muscatine on Facebook for more information.
What excites me is that the Muscatine community has proven to be a great place to host events! Think about it; we will have Food Truck Fight on September 17; the following week, there are three Almost Friday Fest events, including Thursday, Sept. 22 with Monica Austin, Barks & Brews on Friday, Sept. 23 (dogs welcome) with music by 1st Impression and Angus Khan, and Saturday, Sept. . 24 with the return of Pearl City’s OktoBrewFest with 15 breweries showcasing their beers (more on that in next week’s column).
In addition, the The Muscatine County Arts Council recently concluded its second Sunday concert series featuring several great events held on the lawn outside the Musser Public Library. So when you hear someone say, “there’s nothing to do in Muscatine!” You can correct them very quickly! Keep in mind; there are also several community events during the month of October, and I’ll be sharing more about those in the coming weeks! All we need is for the weather to cooperate, and we’re good to go!
