CULLMAN, Ala. – Cooler mornings and the arrival of red spider lilies in Cullman herald the arrival of the annual Oktoberfest celebration that begins on Saturday, September 24th this year and ends on Saturday, October 1st, mimicking the dates September of the event in Munich where the biggest party of the Oktoberfest is celebrated. held.
The Burgermeister for the 41st Oktoberfest celebration in Cullman is Mike Mullaney, a 1980 Cullman High School graduate and co-founder and president of Goat Island Brewing. The proud member of the Cullman Brewers Guild will serve as the symbolic mayor of the Oktoberfest activities.
The salute to Cullman’s German heritage begins with “Goatoberfest” at Goat Island Brewing on Saturday, September 24 for an all-day celebration for the whole family, including kids and dogs. Starting at 11am, there will be bounce houses, face painting, a petting zoo, German ax throwing and shaved ice. German food will be provided by Freddie Day Catering and Rusty Turner’s famous Wurst Haus will be on hand. Live music will start at 12.30pm with Oompah-Calypse followed by Rally Stripe from 4pm to 7pm. Avinguda G will end the party from 7.30pm to 10.30am.
On Monday, September 26, St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, located at 512 Second Ave. SE, will host its annual German dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. The church will offer the $12 meal consisting of wiener schnitzel and sides. not more. Tickets are available at the church or OF Richter and Sons. Two days later, on Wednesday, September 28, Sacred Heart Church will host its German dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. The $15 dinner will also be served. Dinner will feature Brickyard Meats grilled bratwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad and more. Sacred Heart is located at 112 Second Ave. SE.
On Thursday, Sept. 29, the Cullman Parks Sports, Recreation and Tourism Weekend Celebration will begin at 9 a.m. in the Festhalle for Senior Day at Oktoberfest. The biergarten will open at 4:00 p.m., followed by the tapping of the barrel and the opening ceremonies at 6:00 p.m. In the evening, the crowning of Miss Oktoberfest will take place at 18.30 and a candlelight walking tour at 19.00. Live music from Polkawagen and Winston Ramble will complete the day.
The biergarten will be open on Friday from 4pm to 11pm with Polkawagen, Doolin Dalton, The Pine Hill Haints and Fly by Radio. The children’s area will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. There is a children’s pickle contest and children’s jug lifting contests are scheduled for 6.
