Media Arts Fright Fest presented by the Media Arts Council

MEDIA — The 2022 Fall Fright Fest is coming to Media Borough Hall Saturday, October 8th from 2-11pm with a full day of scary vendors and independent horror short films.

This year, Fright Fest will feature 17 independent horror short films from eight countries: Austria, Belarus, Canada, France, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom and United States. Various genres are represented, including psychological horror, serial killers, creatures, folktales, comedy/horror, and more. Filmmakers will also attend.

Starting at 2pm is the vendor showcase, “Delco’s Arcade of Unearthly Delights”, featuring local artisans and their spooky and macabre wares.

At 7:00 p.m., the film portion of the Fall Fright Fest begins with two 90-minute blocks of short horror films.

Media Fright Fest co-chair Karen Chiarini said, “I’m amazed every year by the film submissions we receive and review. It never fails to amaze me how much of a story can be told in a matter of minutes “.

Holy Myrrh-Bearers hosts Halloween Beef and Beer

Holy Myrrh-Bearers Parish, 900 Fairview Road, Swarthmore, will hold a Halloween Beef and Beer, with food, music and dancing, on Friday, Oct. 28, from 7 to 10 p.m. Jeff Bellfy and Company will provide live music.

Tickets are $25. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. There are reservations for a table of eight people. Advance tickets must be purchased by calling 610-544-1215.

The women’s club organizes bingo

The Women’s Club of Media will hold bingo, with prizes, on Sunday, October 9th from 1 to 4 pm at VFW Post #3460, 11 Hilltop Road, Media. The cost is $30. To reserve a ticket or table, call Marie at 610-639-5867.

Delaware County Symphony presents Strings and Winds with Piano Chamber Concert

Under the direction of new Delaware County Symphony Chamber Series Director Kristine Strecker, the first chamber concert of the season will feature two pieces: a piano string quintet and a piano sextet with winds.

The show is on Sunday, October 2 at 3:00 PM in the Meagher Theater at Neumann University. Tickets for the concert can be purchased from Aston Neumann University.

The Dvorak Quintet in A Major for piano and strings is one of the best pieces of music created by the Czech master of the 19th century, full of wonderful melodies and innovative compositional styles.

The Poulenc Sextet for piano and winds, written in 1932, shows joy, lively melodies and bouncy rhythms, characteristic of the composer. For information or tickets, visit http://dcsmusic.org/tickets/.

Rose Tree Place invites area seniors to come out in the fall

Rose Tree Place, a Watermark retirement community located in Media, is inviting local seniors to a schedule of tours and events this fall. All offers are free and open to both Rose Tree Place residents and seniors in the area who are immunized.

East Lansdowne maintains the long tradition of Community Day

The Borough of East Lansdowne will hold a Community Day celebration on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. outside at East Lansdowne Borough Hall, 155 Lexington Ave.

As small town traditions are fast disappearing, East Lansdowne is holding this free, family-friendly community event that will include food, music, bounce houses, crafts, games, prizes and resource tables.
