Neighbors invited to participate in this year’s National Night Out

(Seguin) — Is your neighborhood ready for National Night Out 2022?

Registrations are now open for the national event that brings residents together in a stand against crime.

Sarah Wallace, community engagement officer for the Seguin Police Department, says the Seguin Police and Fire/EMS departments are inviting residents to participate in this year’s event scheduled for the evening of Tuesday 4 of October

He says over the years, the event has expanded to include block parties, sandwiches, live music and visits from police officers, firefighters and government officials.

“It’s really just bringing the first responders together in that community and overnight, we almost have really great conversations. People can ask some questions that they might have about what might be going on within the PD, within the city , within the fire department. It’s a really great opportunity, to increase that relationship with our community, as well as talk about some of the things that are going on and hopefully prevent our citizens from becoming victims just by giving some quick crime prevention tips on how to prevent crime, like locking your cars, making sure you lock your garage, locking your doors, so we’re really excited. Our community has been really good in the past about throwing parties. It’s also a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors, all these new communities out there, great opportunity to get neighbors out and we also have city officials who stop by, ouch so a great opportunity to get to know your government and people. who are in charge of running the city,” Wallace said.

Wallace says National Night Out began in 1984 with the goal of encouraging neighbors to come out of their homes, turn on their front porch lights and show a united front against crime.

Today, he says, the effort has become a more vital opportunity for people to connect with each other, especially in Seguin, with so many new subdivisions and neighborhoods popping up all over the city.

“You can make it as small or as big as you want and when you sign up, we put it on our list to go out and visit. We’ve had some that just keep it nice and simple and just hang out and talk to their neighbors and then we’ve had some that have bounce houses, food, drinks all that fun stuff so you can really do -lo so big or so big. small as you like,” Wallace said.

Registration is not required to host a party or gathering on National Night, but Wallace says it’s the only way to request a visit from the Seguin Police Department, Seguin Fire Department or an official from the city during your party.

To guarantee someone’s visit, you must register by 5pm on October 3rd.

The online registration form is available by visiting the Seguin PD Facebook page or the City of Seguin website.
