It was another pleasant Friday night for an event in downtown Sturgis.
Ryan Conrod, events coordinator for the Sturgis Downtown Development Authority, said participation was high at the “Summer Car Cruise-in & Eats.”
“Kids Korner” was new to the event and featured face painting, bounce houses and a balloon artist. Conrod said it was a good turnout.
Among those participating in the face painting was 3-year-old Amelia Jordan of Colon. She got a rainbow painted by Jessica Higginbotham of Facetastic, who was also joined by Carol Anderson of Festive Faces and Body Art. Jordan had come out to the event with his parents, Jarrett and Ian. They were celebrating father’s birthday.
Also at the car show were friends Marion Wooten and Jim Hudson, both of Sturgis. They each own a 1955 Chevy: Wooten’s is yellow, Hudson’s is red. They travel with their wives to area car shows and said it’s a great way to socialize and meet new people.
Melanie Golden of the Open Door Gallery engraved locks for the new MI Love Locks permanent art fixture on North Street. Locks are also available at Open Door Gallery.
Conrod said “Movies on North” was well attended, with a screening of “Oz The Great and Powerful.”
“It was great to see the community come out for a free movie,” he said.
Acoustic musicians and food vendors were also featured.
