FORT KNOX, Ky. – Officials planning this year’s Oktoberfest at Fort Knox predict up to 6,000 people could descend on Brooks Parade Field on Sept. 23 to celebrate German beer, brats and bands.
The Deutsche Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation-style event is considered one of the most popular and is held every year. Officials say preparations are underway to continue the tradition this year.
Partygoers can find the usual German-inspired cuisine, beer, bounce houses, charcuterie, cornholes and live music at this free event, open to the public from 5 to 10 p.m. There will be something for everyone.
Customers are advised to enter through the Chaffee (main) door and follow directional signs. Those who need access passes can get them at the Visitor Center right outside the gate. Visitors can also go there HERE to get a 5-day Fast Pass. Once inside, follow the signs for free parking near the parade ground. Portable bathrooms will be available.
Officials recommend bringing lawn chairs and rain gear in case of inclement weather. Waybur Theater has been designated as an alternate venue in the event of severe weather conditions. Coolers, backpacks and bags are subject to inspection. No pets or fireworks allowed.
