INTERFAITHIAN CHOIR: The Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir will present “Hearts wide open” Sunday at 7pm at Hubbard Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave. The free concert features a 50-voice choir singing traditional, contemporary and gospel selections. Guest musicians will accompany the choir. The concert will be outside but will be moved inside in case of bad weather. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit Ukraine Disaster Relief of the Presbyterian Church USA.
MEN’S AND WOMEN’S DAY: Reed’s Chapel AME Church, 1939 Jacobs Road, Youngstown, will host a Men’s and Women’s Day celebration at 11 a.m. Sunday. Guest speaker is Rev. Martha Taylor, Metro Assembly of God.
GUEST SPEAKER: Grace AME Church, 1145 Main Ave. SW, Warren, will welcome the Rev. Lucinda V. Burgess, president of the European Conference, at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
In April, during the 60th session of the European Annual Conference, Bishop Marvin C. Zanders II appointed Burgess as President of the European Conference.
Burgess oversees churches in England, France and the Netherlands. Burgess is the first traveling elder woman and the second native Bermudian to hold the position.
In 2013, he came to the United States to attend Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce and graduated in May 2017 with a Master of Divinity degree, cum laude.
SOCIAL BLOCK: Divine Trinity Temple Pentecostal Ministries, 500 Vine Ave. NE, Warren, will host a three-in-one blog social from 2-6pm on August 20th. The event will include a back-to-school supply giveaway, distribution of pre-filled lunch boxes and free hot food, along with a fun outdoor party. There will be cold drinks, homemade ice cream, bounce houses for youngsters, water games, face painting, contests and prizes.
PROTESTANT SERVICES: Protestant Family Services, a faith-based agency serving the community since 1944, needs donations for the back-to-school program. Shoes and school clothes are required. Services are working with the Boardman Burlington store to provide vouchers for children to get shoes and school clothes. Donations can be made at www.protestantfamily-service.

OPENING OF THE BOOKSTORE: The monastery of St. Paul, 9531 Akron Canfield Road in Ellsworth, will host the official opening of its bookstore, St. Paul’s Books and Gifts, on August 20, which is the 108th anniversary of the founding of the Society of St. Peace for the blessed Father Jaume Alberione. Bishop David Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown will preside over Holy Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the monastery’s main chapel. After the mass, the blessing of the bookstore will take place. Afterwards there will be a picnic in the park.
LABYRINTH WALK: The Ursuline Education and Wellness Center, 4280 Shields Road in Canfield, will soon begin its 12th year of labyrinth walks. Although the maze is open year-round, themed and guided maze walks by trained facilitators are offered during the warm weather season.
All people of faith are invited to participate in these free events, weather permitting. Walks usually take between 20 minutes and an hour.
This year’s schedule is: Thursday at 6:30 p.m. “Jesus invites the children”; 18:30 September 15, “Jesus welcomes sinners”; and at 14:00 on October 16 “God welcomes us all.”

MUSIC JAM: First Congregational Church will host a music jam and ice cream social from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 20 at Wayne City Hall, Route 322. The event is sponsored by the church’s missionary society.
SUMMER EVENT: Sants Apostols Parish-SS. The Peter and Paul Croatian Place of Worship and St. Stephen’s Pastoral Center of Hungary will host a summer picnic from noon to 6 pm on August 21 at the Strossmayer Croatian Center, Vienna. Outdoor Mass is at 11am and guests should bring their own chairs. Entertainment is the Mickey Dee Band from 2 to 5 p.m. The event is open to the public. Cost is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
GAME NIGHT: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a game night at 7pm on the third Tuesday of each month. There will be board games, retro video games, cards and puzzles.
GOLDEN WONDERS: The Mighty Golden Wonders will perform a concert at 5 pm on August 21 at the Church of God in Christ in St. John’s Ministries, 419 Highland Ave. SW, Warren.
LUNCH AND LEARN: Catholic Charities, Diocese of Youngstown, welcomes community and church leaders and others interested in a “Lunch and learn” at noon on Thursday in the parish hall of St. Columba, Youngstown. The free event will highlight the immigration legal services offered through a mutual agreement between the Diocese of Youngstown and the Diocese of Cleveland for people who reside in the six counties of the Diocese of Youngstown. The luncheon will include a brief overview of the program, followed by an open discussion and question-and-answer segment. The featured speaker is Ashley Sanchez, the attorney for Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland assigned to assist clients in the Diocese of Youngstown. In 2021, the collaboration between the Dioceses of Cleveland and Youngstown resulted in the provision of legal services to 48 new individuals and new cases for 16 repeat clients, for a total of 64 individuals served.
