Summary: Ex-Lima Senior, OSU star White dies


Former Lima Senior, Ohio State and William White pro football player has died, according to a tweet from the Lima City School Thursday night.

The tweet reads, “Our Spartan family has lost a great one in William White. He was a great friend and supporter of Lima City Schools. William will be greatly missed by our school district and our community . Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends tonight.”

White, 56, played defensive end at Ohio State from 1984-87 before being drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by Detroit with the 85th overall pick.

He played 11 professional seasons with stops also in Kansas City and Atlanta.

White was inducted into the first class of the Lima Senior High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018.

In 2016, he was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

WAPAKONETA — Kenadie Daeger had the low round with an 82 during the first day of the Lima Area Women’s Match Play Qualifier Thursday at the par 72 Wapakoneta Country Club. Taylor West was next with an 87.

Tracey Beard’s 93 was the low Open Flights score. In the senior flight, Becky Komminsk led the way with a 96.

Qualifying continues today at Shawnee Country Club.

LIMA — The season championship and family fun night are set for tonight at Limaland Motorsports Park.

Cars will be on display with various drivers signing autographs and handing out hero cards.

Backpack and bike giveaways will take place before the races. In addition, there will be inflatables and bounce houses.

The non-Wing Sprint cars, Northwest Physical Therapy DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks will battle it out in the final points races of the season.

Pit doors open at 4pm The family fun event starts at 4.30pm with hot laps at 6.30pm and racing at 7.30pm.

General admission is $12 for ages 16 and older, $6 for ages 11-15, and youth 10 and under will be admitted free. Chest passes are $30.
