At Deer Park High School’s annual Meet the Team/Football Festival Saturday night, fans young and old definitely brought “the good times and your laughs too” to the three-hour event.
From player introductions to student coach introductions and a little bit of everything in between, the city was in a celebratory mood, thankful for the return of high school football that officially arrives Friday at the night when the Deer and La Porte add a new chapter to their long journey. -current series
Manager Scott Davis is unlikely to have entered the sinking booth, located at the north end of the stadium, but many others did. That and the bounce houses were again a hit with the kids. Deer Park quarterbacks coach Ryan Hrncir was seen next to one of the bounce houses, trying to talk someone into going down the chute.
This was the first Football Festival since new turf was installed last December, so for all the youngsters who kicked off their shoes and socks for the bounce houses and kept them out for being able to run barefoot on the new grass was a fun experience. same
Abshier’s scoreboard football games featured a steady stream of challenges that felt they could throw a spiral better than one of the high school players or that they could set some kind of record while competing in an obstacle course, it all went be a good way to celebrate Deer Park’s small-town vibe in a big way.
As for the adults, they are only doing one thing. Located along the 50-yard line was the silent auction where item after item awaited bidding. There were the fast food baskets, the teacher’s gift box, and there was even a Christmas basket waiting to be won by some lucky person with deep pockets.
It didn’t take long for the bid written down on paper to go from a dollar amount of $50 or less to a bid of over $100.
Not all the muscle was inside the stadium. A car show took place outside the stadium where muscle cars in various bright colors were on display.
So, under an overcast sky, football, food, family and fun came together once again to tell everyone that a new season is here.
