The Genesee County Department of Veterans Services held a Veterans Stand Down Sept. 17 at the Lake Callis Recreational Complex, 1152 N. Gale Rd. Anyone who showed proof of being a veteran received a VIP wristband and got them even more free items. More than 50 resources were available at the event and some of the gifts and services available to veterans included Footprints of Michigan giving away new tennis shoes to veterans. There were food trucks where veterans ate for free, free haircuts and lots of giveaways and swag. Children enjoyed bounce houses and activities, face painting and a bubble station. There was also live music and a Grand Prix car on display.
