After being scared eight minutes into an episode of Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures featuring the historic building, we thought we couldn’t!
The current Gooding University Inn it wasn’t always a haunted hospital. The building was originally part of the Gooding College campus, but the school eventually fell into financial difficulties and ceased operations in the late 1930s.
The Story of the Idaho State Tuberculosis Hospital
According to the inn websitethe Methodist Church owned the property and gave it to the State in 1941 so they could create a tuberculosis hospital. MagicValley.com explains that there was a huge gap in TB care in that part of the state. World War II delayed the completion of the hospital. While the medical community waited for it to open, patients were sent to St. Al’s in Boise or a hospital in northern Idaho. Both facilities had a limited number of beds available for TB patients. When this facility finally opened in 1947, it was able to care for 150 patients.
It finally closed in 1976 and has since been renovated as the Gooding University Inn. Over its years as a hotel, it has spawned dozens of stories of hauntings by what could be former tuberculosis hospital patients or children who died on the property. We’re talking everything from disembodied footsteps to full-figured apparitions to spooky sounds in the halls.
Ghosts attract attention from Travel Channel’s Ghostly Adventures
In fact, it spawned so many stories that Zak Bagans, the host of Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures, brought in a crew to investigate the stories. I tried to watch it and couldn’t get past 22 minutes into the episode. The crew almost immediately attempted to communicate with the spirits via Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) and picked up an inexplicable dark voice answering Zak’s question “Is there something wrong here?”

You can conduct your own ghost hunt…if you dare
If you’re brave enough to do a little ghost hunting on the property, you can click away HERE. A company called Ghost Hunts USA is offering just TWO opportunities for brave souls to be part of a hotel tour that includes structured surveillance and the use of ghost hunting equipment such as trigger objects and gauges EMF. You also have private time to conduct your own hunts and vigils.
They usually offer this tour several times between August and Halloween, but this year it’s just one weekend! There are options for no-sleep hunts (ending at 4am) and sleeping hunts (ending at 10am). These are the dates for 2022:
