Cove Cause for Cancer to Host Park Party Fundraiser | News, Sports, Employment

The nonprofit Cove Cause for Cancer is holding its third Party in the Park Saturday at Morrison’s Cove Memorial Park Cattle Barns to raise money for cancer patients in Blair and Bedford counties.

The 12-hour event will start at 11.30am and will feature bounce houses and rock walls for the kids; draw baskets including one with a box in the Curve; and a Cove’s Got Talent Show from 4 to 6 p.m

Partygoers will also have a chance to win money during a cornhole tournament starting at 1 p.m. Teams can enter for $30 and first place winners will receive $300; second place, $200; and third, $100.

The events end at 11:30 p.m

“It’s a great opportunity to get out and learn about what causes Cove cancer,” CCC Advisory Board member Travis Russell said. “We’re big on saying we support our neighbors, our friends and our families.”

While admission to the event is free, organizers are asking attendees to support the more than 30 local craft and food vendors, including The Smokey Pig and Roaring Spring VFW Post 7689. Vendors are back donations to Cove Cause for Cancer based on profits on the day. Russell said.

There will also be live music, with local bands. The Lawn Darts will take the stage at noon, followed by Bone Jacked at 4pm, Stephanie & the Wild Hearts at 7pm and The Pines at 9.30pm.

Rounding out the festivities will be a glow-in-the-dark pool party with pizza, snacks and drinks from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, Russell said.

All funds raised at Party in the Park will go towards helping cancer patients in Blair and Bedford counties with their living expenses “So they can focus on improving,” Russell said.

The funds are distributed through the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Altoona and the Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund in State College, Russell said.

The Perks Fund works closely with Cove Cause for Cancer, said Executive Director Cindy Brown, as both share a common goal of easing the financial burden on cancer patients and their families.

“We really appreciate everything they do for us,” Brown said. “They have raised over $35,000 over the past three years, and we are so grateful that this money goes directly to cancer patients in the southern Blair County area.”

With CCC’s help, the Perks Fund helps patients with needs like groceries, gas, rent and utilities, Brown said, adding that the group has never turned away a qualified applicant.

“We could not exist without these generous donors and supporters,” Brown said.
