FLINT, MI – The second annual Glizzy Fest will bring outdoor entertainment and festivities to downtown Flint this Saturday.
Glizzy Fest, presented by Kerale C, is scheduled to take place from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Saturday, August 6 at First Street in Saginaw Beach and Buckham Alley.
This year’s outdoor summer event will feature over 18 merchandise/food vendors and live musical performances by Flint-area artists. CJ The DJ will host the event.
“Part of my goal was to always drive economic development,” said event commissioner Kerale Cayton. “So when I know there’s going to be a big crowd, I try to get vendors out. Especially local vendors, as well as black-owned vendors because that’s a big thing for me — to stimulate that black dollar.”
Musical entertainment will include Stepping/Hustle Hour, Karaoke Kickback, a featured show by Glizzy and a live DJ battle. Compared to last year, Cayton is keeping the musical performances at a fluid pace to keep the crowd hyped, he said. There will also be a children’s area with bounce houses and more from 14:00 to 18:00, according to the event flyer.
Cayton said he has put on this event independently without sponsors or grants, and is proud of the successful music festival it has become. In the future, he aims to find sponsors, add new activities and focus more on food.
“I always wanted to bring Koegel Meats into it and make it real fine dining, but music always draws a crowd, especially in Flint,” Cayton said. “It’s just the overall experience of going from a street to having the vendors and the stage and the lights on. I look forward to it. And, of course, people having a good time.”
