The Sant Antoni Beer Festival returns for its 16th edition.

Along with cooler temperatures and spooky movie marathons, October offers an excuse to put on pants and drink suds at numerous festivals.

With the spirit of Oktoberfest soon upon us, here’s a roundup of San Antonio events inspired by Germany’s world-famous beer celebration.

Arguably the father of all Oktoberfest-style events in the San Antonio area, New Braunfels’ iconic Wurstfest celebrates the city’s German heritage Nov. 3-14 with food, music, dancing, carnival rides , games and beer. a lot of beer German, Texan and domestic beer abound, as well as special events and Bavarian-style entertainment. The 16th Annual San Antonio Beer Festival, set for Saturday, October 15, will feature more than 400 craft and premium beers produced by approximately 100 breweries from around the world, all benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank . In addition to this lineup of beers, the festival includes music, games, food trucks and booths in Crockett Park. Beer naysayers will even find wines and ciders to drink. Fredericksburg’s 42nd annual Oktoberfest will take place Friday, September 30th through Sunday, October 2nd, taking over the Marktplatz in the heart of the historic Hill Country town. Famous for its wine, Fredericksburg will celebrate its German heritage with music, arts and crafts, vendor markets and a kids’ zone. Naturally, there will also be plenty to drink: 50 varieties of Texas beer and wine. There will also be German-inspired food such as strudel, schnitzel burgers and turkey legs. Bar Rojo in San Antonio will showcase local breweries Alamo Beer Co., Viva Brewery, Freetail Brewing, Weathered Souls and Second Pitch Beer Co. at their Roktoberfest event on Friday, September 30. The bar at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio hotel will offer beer samples, giveaways, specials and live music from the band Bad Rumors from 6-9 p.m., $1 from every brat sold will benefit Diamond Dachshund Rescue. 600 East Market St., (210) 224-1234, Roktoberfest details on Eventbrite.

Bier Garten Riverwalk Oktoberfest will hold its German festival throughout October; in fact, the celebration won’t end until Monday, November 14. It will host beer acquisitions with Alamo Beer Co., St. Arnold and Freetail Brewing Co., each for a week, and features sing-a-longs, stein-holding contests and Alphorn sleeping feats, as well as live German music and ceremonial barrel tapping. 126 Losoya St., (210) 212-7299, biergartenriverwalk.com.

Freetail Brewing Co.’s Southtown taproom. will host a Boos & Brews 5k Monster Dash on Saturday, October 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The “5K-ish” race begins and ends at the South Presa taproom, where runners will be able to participate in a post-race costume contest, door prizes, live music, games and giveaways. Southtown icehouse La Tuna will host its Oktoberfest and Stein Lifting Contest on Sunday, October 2nd from 5-7pm featuring music by DJ Ruben Tag. Guests are encouraged to wear T-shirts while eating, drinking and dancing. 100 Proband St., (210) 212-5727, latunasa.com.

La Torre de las Américas will host its Octoberfest event on Saturday, October 8 from 2 to 5 p.m., pouring beers from 12 European and 12 Texas breweries. Expect suds from Chimay, Estrella, Hacker Pschorr, La Trappe, Shiner, Viva Brewing and Wild Acre to name a few. Tickets are $50 to $80 and include live music and food samples. 739 E. César E. San Antonio’s shopping and dining destination, Los Patios, will host a free, family-friendly Sober Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. Vendors will offer schnitzel, sausage, Swiss fondue, barbecue and scratch-proof cocktails.
