Skating meeting: Noon and 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Swede Hill Park, 235 Baldwin St., Big Rapids. Grab your wheels and come skate and take a look at what it would be like to have a skate park in the city. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Helments are encouraged.

National Night: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, Michigan Avenue, downtown Big Rapids. Public Safety Departments Big Raids hosts an event with free food, music, games and prizes for the community.

Free Family Fun Night: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Brockway Wesleyan Church and Christian Academy, 10951 Three Mile Road, Morley. Come for a free evening of fun, food and fellowship. There will be live music, cake, bounces, games and prizes, archery tag and more. Please call 989-352-7719 for more information.

Big Rapids High School All Class Reunion: 5:00 pm Saturday, August 6, 100 block of Michigan Avenue, Big Rapids. This event is free to attend and will feature a cash bar and food for purchase from Shooter’s and The Yellow Window. For more information, visit brhsalumni.com.

FAIRS, PARTIES

Barryton Beach Bash 2022: August 5-7 in downtown Barryton. Activities include modified truck and tractor pulls, parade, softball tournament, children’s games/activities, corn hole tournament, horseshoe toss contest, gridiron competition, shiny car show, music and far more. visit facebook.com/BarrytonDays for more information.

Big Rapids Farmers’ Market: Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., May 6 through Oct. 28, at the downtown Big Rapids lot, 226 N. Michigan Ave., Big Rapids. Contact: Josh Pyles, 231-592-4038.

Pocket Park Music Series: Friday, June 3 at 2 p.m. noon to 2 p.m. 2, at 123 N. Michigan Ave., Big Rapid, downtown Big Rapids. visit downtownbigrapids.com/events for a list of bands.

Faithful Fridays: 6:30pm the first Friday in June, August and September at the Big Rapids Bandshell, Hemlock Park, behind Big Rapids Middle School. Faithful Fridays are a series of Christian worship services. The community is encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy the music and message provided by the following churches.

Cedar Creek Band Free Concert: 7-9pm July 28, August 11, August 25 and September 8, at the Reed City Depot. Pete Jordan And His Fun Loving Crowd will play, with Scott Bregg playing country music. Bring lawn chairs.

Lakeside Motorsports Summer Concert Series: From 7 to 9 p.m. Saturdays, June 11 to August. 20, at the Reuther Music Pavilion, 10690 Pierce Road, Canadian Lakes. It presents music of all genres: jazz, rock, R&B, bluegrass, folk, etc. It is free to the public.

PROGRAMS, ONGOING ACTIVITIES

Mecosta County History Museum: Fridays and Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m. the first Sunday of the month, at 129 S. Stewart, Big Rapids. We have a new display of furniture, our collection of Madame Alexander First Lady dolls, as well as many other artefacts from the area. Private tours can be requested by calling 231-592-5091 or by visiting the museum’s Facebook page.

Mecosta County Genealogical Society: Wednesdays 5-7pm and 10am-2pm the second Saturday of each month at 424 N. Fourth Ave., Big Rapids, next to Recycle, or by appointment. They needed volunteers to help sort and index. The public is welcome to stop by and view any of our holdings. Call Maureen Nelson at 231-250-5555 for more information.

Reed City Heritage Museum: Open 1-4pm Friday-Tuesday at 138 W. Slosson Ave., Reed City. Free admission. Groups are welcome.

Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office: 7:00 pm on the second Thursday of each month in the basement training room of the Mecosta County Jail, 225 S. Stewart Ave., Big Rapids. This volunteer group is always looking for more members. For more information call 231-250-9241

Morley Community Centre: The center, at 151 7th St., Morley, hosts weekly pickleball, open gym, indoor garage sales and outdoor market, plus monthly ancestry classes, craft night and blood drives. For a list of activities, visit morleycenter.org/events or call 231-856-4496.

Community food: 5:30-6:30pm Thursday nights at Big Rapids First United Methodist Church, 304 Elm St, Big Rapids. (NOTE: The meal will only be served on May 26)

Community lunch: Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Third Avenue United Methodist Church, 226 N. Third Ave., Big Rapids. The community lunch program has reopened. This is a free meal service, although donations are appreciated. For more information call 231-796-4157 or 231-796-6779.

Lord’s Table Food Pantry: Open 3-5pm Wednesdays at Faith Community Church, 610 Green St., Big Rapids. Everyone is welcome. Contact: 231-796-8389. (The hours will change from 1-5pm on Wednesdays starting in April.)

Reed City Food Pantry: Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 831 S. Chestnut St., Reed City. For questions or emergency food needs, please call 231-215-6996.

Barryton Area Mobile Food Pantry: 2 pm the second Saturday of each month, rain or shine, in the Fork Township Community Center parking lot, 3265 20 Mile Road, Barryton. Registration to receive food begins at noon. For more information, check out our Facebook page or visit our website, bamfp.org.
