With Halloween just over two weeks away, Onslow County residents are in for a treat, and maybe a few tricks, at these area events and haunted attractions.

Halloween is on a Monday this year, but for those planning to be in bed by 9pm on the 31st, there are plenty of ways to celebrate before then. With everything from suitcases or gifts to haunted houses, there’s something for everyone.

Mike’s Farm Haunted Hayride
Mike’s Farm will have its annual haunted walk, hosted by the Fountaintown Fire Department and the Back Swamp Volunteer Fire Department, on October 27th, 28th and 29th.
Tickets for the ride are $10 per person, but children five and under are free, according to the event flyer. Over the three days, straw rides will run from dark until tickets are sold out. Snacks and items for the “young and young at heart” can be purchased at the ticket offices.

Once Upon a Wicked Fairytale Trail – Hog Wild at Howard Farms
Hog Wild at Howard Farms, located at 165 Rhodestown Road in Jacksonville, has partnered with the Half Moon Volunteer Fire Department to host “an epic Halloween event,” according to Hog Wild’s Facebook page.
The Once Upon a Wicked Fairytale Trail will be open on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29 from 7pm to midnight. Tickets are $12 per person and will be on sale until 11:30pm on those nights.

Fishstrong Fright Nights Haunted Hayride & Walking Trail
The Fishstrong Foundation, a non-profit organization located at 3100 Freedom Way in Hubert, will celebrate its annual haunted tour and hike every Friday and Saturday through Oct. 29 with a special Halloween event.
“Like every year, we’ve changed things up a bit with new scares and scary attractions you won’t want to miss,” says the Fishstrong website. “There will be food vendors, carnival games and a pumpkin patch. As always, proceeds from the events will go to help North Carolina families dealing with a life-changing illness.”

The website says the box office opens at 6pm and closes at 10:30pm. The show will start around 7pm, or dark, and the attraction will not close until all ticketed customers have passed.
Tickets for the walk are $12 per person and the trail is $9 per person, but children under five are free at parental discretion. Combo tickets are available at the time of original purchase and the cost is $18 for both attractions, according to the website.

Halloween Party at Humphrey Farm
Humphrey Farm, located at 522 W. Willis Landing Road in Hubert, will hold a Halloween Fest on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.
The event will include costume contests with prizes, a Halloween cake decorating contest with free samples, food trucks, bounce houses, pony rides, funnel cakes, beer barn, cider/cocoa, games, rides with cow train, hay rides, a pumpkin patch and more.
According to Humphrey Farm’s website, the event will also include a new expanded haunted graveyard, Halloween photo ops and a visit with Jack Skellington. Then, in the dark, a trunk or deal will be made with local businesses and residents. There will also be a vote for your favorite Halloween montage.

Halloween party at Pizza Bonez
Pizza Bonez, located at 754 AD Ramsey Road in Jacksonville, is having a Halloween party on Friday, October 28th.
According to the Pizza Bonez Facebook page, those interested can come and enter the costume contest for cash prizes and dance the night away with DJ Vox-1 from 9pm to 2am. the door.

Not – so – Spooky Museum
Jacksonville’s Zing Zumm Children’s Museum will hold a “not-so-spooky Halloween experience” October 14-16 from 4-8 p.m.
The event will allow children to meet characters along their walk through the transformed museum. According to the museum’s Facebook event, this experience is not a scary haunted house, but a friendly and fun experience for all. Children are encouraged to dress up and bring a bag for all the goodies collected along the way.
The museum asks that you do not wear scary costumes. Admission is $5 per person for both adults and children, although museum members get in for $3.

Spectacular Science Night – Sturgeon City
Sturgeon City, located at 50 Court Street in Jacksonville, is hosting a Halloween Spooktacular on Friday, October 21st at 6pm.
“Explore different science stations and go trick-or-treating along the way,” says the Facebook event. “Costume is encouraged and don’t forget to bring a candy basket.”

Mac Daddy’s Halloween Party
Mac Daddy’s in Cape Carteret will be holding a “Spooktacular” Halloween Party on Saturday, October 29th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

From 11 a.m. to noon, a free arcade will be available for children 12 and under. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a Halloween magic show with Gary Shelton and the Shelton Show. Then, at 2:00 p.m., there will be a costume contest with cash prizes for the first and second place.

Halloweenie Roast at the Pug Pavilion in Swansboro
Swansboro Parks and Recreation will host its ninth annual Halloweenie Roast on October 21st from 5-8pm at The Pugliese Pavilion in Olde Towne Square.
“Join us for Halloween games, hot dogs and more spooky fun,” the Facebook event says. “Come dressed in your wackiest, scariest or most creative costume for our 2022 Halloweenie Roast Costume Contest and win fun prizes.”
The event will begin at 5 p.m., but the hot dog roast will begin at 6:30 p.m. with food while supplies last. The costume contest will begin at 6 p.m. Every child who attends the roast will receive a bag of Halloween goodies.

Nightmare factory
The Nightmare Factory is a popular attraction in eastern North Carolina. Located in Havelock, many Onslow County residents make the trip each year to experience the place.
The Nightmare Factory is open Friday and Saturday nights until October 31 from 7:00 PM to midnight. R-rated hours start at 9:00 p.m. This year, the Nightmare Factory has outdoor attractions: Dead Zone, 3D Clowns, Haunted Factory and Psych Ward. The Unleash Rage room is also an option.

Marr Branch Haunted House
The Marr Branch Haunted House is located at 2289 Garner Chapel Road in Mount Olive.
The nearly hour-long journey is worth it for those who really like to be scared. The haunted house is open Fridays and Saturdays until October 29 from 7 to 11 p.m., as well as Halloween night and November 5 from 7 to 10 p.m. According to their website, the haunted house is not for young children, the faint of heart, or the easily entertained.
