Along with all the other fun things happening in the Williston area during the summer, the Williston Downtowners Association is proud to present “Summer Nights on Main.”
Every Thursday night from 5 to 9 p.m., members of the Downtowners take downtown Main St., Williston, from 4th St., through Broadway, to 2nd St. Each week they have a different local business sponsor that has the option. of having your stand, offering workers, additional activities for children or a band break activity. Their first night was June 30th and they will continue until August 25th. Every Thursday there will be a different band playing a concert. July 21 will be “Josey and the Whalers,” a three-piece band from the Sidney and Williston area. According to their website, http://www.joseyandthewhalers.com, intended to be a small group with a small, acoustic sound, but the sound, the keys, the songs, and above all, the drums, keep growing. July 28th will be Brianna Helbling, according to her Facebook page, Brianna brings the best of Country/Rock/Pop/Originals, either by herself or with a full band. The concerts are free and start at 6pm, but that’s not all there will be. There will also be food vendors, children’s activities and a beer garden. Jump N Fun offers several bounce houses. Some of the shops on Main stay open later to allow attendees the opportunity to shop and add to the experience.
Eight years ago, a group of downtown enthusiasts, business owners and those who worked for downtown businesses saw the need for “quality of life” events to bring people downtown. The group had formed in December 2011 and formally became the Williston Downtowners Association and added an events coordinator/director in 2014. “Summer Nights on Main” was added as a way to have a family event that would attract people to the city center, enjoy live. music, give retailers the opportunity to stay open in the evening if they wish and act as a fundraiser for the organization to continue to host other events in the city centre. WDA event coordinator Naudia said, “Summer Nights on Main” is about giving all ages in the Williston community a place to gather for family fun while trying to give support for our downtown businesses.”
The concert is free. Wristbands can be purchased at the event, giving kids access to bounce houses throughout the event.
