RAPID CITY, SD — Main Street Square announced Tuesday that the annual Pumpkin Festival will return for its 14th year on Sept. 24.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will run from Main Street Square to Memorial Park. There will be more than 60 vendors, food trucks and a harvest market.
The day will begin with a drum demonstration and procession by the Rapid City Central and Stevens High School drum lines and lead everyone down merchant-filled 6th Street to Memorial Park, where the Pumpkin Chunkin will take place with catapults created by southern students. Dakota Mines and area high schools. The Pumpkin Chunkin is presented by RESPEC and will have competitions at approximately 10:15 a.m. and noon to showcase the brains of Mines students before the school’s football team plays its homecoming game against New Mexico Highlands University at 2 in the afternoon.
“This event is a Rapid City staple and we are excited to collaborate with all of our community partners to put this on for the 14th year,” said Main Street Square President and CEO Domico Rodriguez. “Traditionally the biggest event on Main Street Square, we want to kick off the fall and harvest season in a big way…and with it at the School of Mines homecoming, it’s also a great showcase for what they bring in downtown Rapid City.”
Along with the pumpkin toss competition at Memorial Park, there will also be the Two-Buck Chuck at Memorial Park, the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off at the CSAC parking lot presented by Fleet Farm, bounce houses by Jump & Slide Enterprises on Main Street. Square and the Kidz Zone presented by Monument Health and Billion Auto also at Main Street Square.
