The two-day Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival kicks off Friday with most of the activities taking place at the Laney Activity Center on the campus of Wayland Baptist University.
The event will feature more than 50 vendors, local entertainers and a couple of concerts.
The festivities will begin Friday at 5 pm with a hamburger dinner, courtesy of the Plainview Lions Club.
Floydada native Jason Nutt and Highway 70 will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by country singer (and headliner) Billy Dean (no relation to the festival namesake).
City of Plainview Animal Management will also be on hand Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with adoptable animals from the Plainview Animal Shelter. The adoption event is part of National Adoption Weekend (September 16-18) and is in partnership with Best Friends Network Partner, which has been identified as a network of animal shelters in a city press release.
Festival activities will continue Saturday with concerts featuring Texan singer David Lee Rodriguez, saxophonist Adaryll Jordan, country singer Kelly Hastey and The Royal Priesthood of Happy Union Baptist Church.
Vendors will also be present on Saturday. There will also be bounce houses, among other activities.
Activities throughout the day (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) are free.
The day/festival will end with a concert.
Noel and Ben Haggard, sons of country music legend Merle Haggard, will perform. Steve Burris and the High Plains Drifters will open the show.
Tickets for both concerts are $35 for each show and can be purchased at JimmyDeanMuseum.com.
Plainview Animal Management will be back Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with more adoptable animals, mostly dogs. Of note, there will also be adoptions throughout the weekend at the Plainview Animal Shelter, 500 SW 3rd Street.
