The Danville Police Department held its annual National Night Out on Tuesday evening. Festivities included bounce houses and pony rides for children, live music and other activities. Officials staged the event at three locations, starting with the opening ceremony, games and festivities at Westmoreland at 540 Gay St., before moving to Southwyck Grove Park Shelter on Southland Drive and then to the Slade Building at 135 Jones Crossing. National Night Out is held across the country, usually the first week of August, with the goal of improving the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while restoring a true sense of community, according to National’s website Night Out. It also provides an opportunity to bring police and residents together under positive circumstances.
