Canton mixes with local authorities

Aug. 5: Canton leaders offered a fun way to mingle with local law enforcement by participating in National Night Out.

Many local first responders were on hand and residents brought their children to join the festivities at Sorrells Park in downtown Canton.

Among the law enforcement agencies represented were the Haywood Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the Waynesville Police Department and, of course, the Canton Police Department.

There were many vendors and booths with children’s activities, and participants had many opportunities to meet local authorities. Youngsters also splashed around the splash pad and bounced on the bounce houses.

“We let people know what their health options are,” said Maddie Culbertson of Amerihealth Caritas. They are one of North Carolina’s prepaid health care plans.

Pactiv Evergreen also came out to support the community.

“We wanted to give them an opportunity to learn about recycling,” Tammy McDowell said. “We also wanted to be a part of the community,” added Paige Harriman.
