After last year’s festival was a walking event and the previous year’s event was canceled due to the pandemic, this year looks set to return to form for Bay Port as it returns the annual Fish Sandwich Festival.
The event is scheduled to take place this year on August 5th from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on August 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Last year’s event was held in the pavilion at McLeish Memorial Park with 20 picnic tables for guests to eat at. The decision not to go to the full festival was due to restrictions not being fully lifted due to the pandemic.
This year has already seen the return of both the King and Queen and Prince and Princess Fish Sandwich, which is sponsored by Bay Port State Bank, and a parade at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Both events had been canceled the last two years.
Nancy Gunden, president of the Bay Port Chamber of Commerce, said she’s excited about the impact of getting back to normal from COVID-19.
“It can only help the community,” Gunden said. “It’s always been a great family event, a time when everyone enjoys each other’s company.”
The event will feature arts and crafts, as well as bounce houses for children and other entertainment. The design will not be the same as before the pandemic, but it will have more to offer than last year.
“The food will still be served from the same pavilion as last year where people can go up,” Gunden said.
In addition, the Bay Port Inn has booked its entertainment lineup for the weekend and announced it on its Facebook page.

Finally, on Saturday, August 6 at dusk, there will be a fireworks display sponsored by Ignash Petroleum, Bay Port Inn and Farm Bureau Insurance Tim Fritz of Bad Axe.
