This year, summer is not over yet! The Glen Ellyn Backyard BBQ returns for its 41st year on Saturday, September 10th.
It is the largest amateur barbecue competition in the state of Illinois, with teams competing for the best ribs, best chicken, best plate and best sauce.
After you’ve had some delicious BBQ from one of our vendors, head to the contest to vote for your favorite BBQ sauce from our competitors and get tips from home cooking pros.

A host of great vendors including competition sponsor Real Urban Barbecue, Dan and Duff’s, Steamboat BBQ and Taco Factory will be offering a variety of BBQ, hamburgers, hot dogs, Nothin’ Bundt Cakes, Two Brothers Brewing cold beer and more
There will be activities for the whole family, including Piglet Playland with kid-enthusiastic host Mary Macaroni, along with mural painting, bounce houses and delicious treats for the kids. And some of the best bands in the area including The Rob Post Band, Ralph Covert of The Bad Examples and more.
“The BBQ is excited to welcome some great bands like Hillbilly Rockstarz and one of our favorite local bands, Panic at the Costco,” says Amy Van Polen, Senior Director of Bridge Communities. Last but not least, there will also be a raffle table.
“In 14 years, we’ve grown from a neighborhood barbecue to one of the most anticipated events in Glen Ellyn and have raised more than $375,000 to help families facing homelessness in DuPage County,” he says GEBYBBQ co-chair Rani McKee. “BBQ, Bands and Beer, what’s not to love? We have something for everyone – great BBQ, great bands, a fun kids play area, beer and the largest amateur BBQ contest in the state of Illinois “.
The GEBYBBQ is open to the public from noon to 9:30pm on Saturday, September 10th in the Glenwood Ave parking lot at Crescent Boulevard in downtown Glen Ellyn.
