OAKLAND COUNTY — Local cities in Oakland County are gearing up to host their Halloween events and give residents and children a chance to show off their costumes, get candy and have fun.
Ferndale
From Oct. 22-31, the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority will host its third annual Hallowindow event, where businesses enter a Halloween-themed window decorating contest and people can vote for their favorites.
The DDA will also be holding a trick-or-treat event downtown from 3-5pm on Saturday, October 29, where participating businesses will be giving away candy. Participating companies will be marked with signs on their buildings.

Berkley
Throughout the month of October, the Berkley DDA will have a host of events downtown for BOO!KLEY Nights, which focus on bringing people to local businesses with Halloween themed events.
From 5 to 9 p.m. on October 13, a Witches’ Outing will take place with free carriage rides; a ghost chase, described as a cross between a road rally and “The Amazing Race,” will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 21; a trick-or-treat walk will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on October 29; and the Monster Mash block party will take place from 2-6pm on October 29 on Coolidge Highway between 12 Mile Road and Catalpa Drive.

The Berkley Parks and Recreation Department will offer a Tale on the Trail at various times between 4:15 and 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 20th at Oxford Park. The event is free, but attendees must register in advance at recreation.berk leymich.org. The event will be hosted by the Berkley Public Library.
Berkeley Parks and Recreation Director Theresa McArleton said the pages of the story will be presented at various points throughout the park. The chosen story is “She Wanted Be Haunted”.
“They will read the pages of the story with volunteers and staff there, and then at different stations, they get candy,” she said. “We’re asking you to dress up, so you’re all dressed up in a park and reading the pages of the Halloween story.”
Huntington Woods
Huntington Woods Parks and Recreation will hold Pumpkin Carving & Storytime from 4 to 5:30 pm on Sunday, October 23 at Burton Field. The event invites people to bring their own pumpkins to carve with others. People are also asked to bring a candle and lighter, or a flameless candle, to light the pumpkins. Clawson
The Clawson Downtown Development Authority will host a Halloween event called “Trick or Treasure,” where costumed kids can visit downtown businesses to collect treasure and allergy-free treats. The event will take place from noon to 2 pm in the city center.

Royal Oak
In Royal Oak, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department will hold its second annual Halloween Party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 28 at Normandy Oaks Park. The event is free to the public.
Recreation Superintendent John Fedele said there will be trick-or-treating as well as bounce houses and a movie in the park, although no movie had been selected as of press time .
“We set up about 10 stations throughout the park, and all the participants go on the paths of the park and we give out candy,” he said. He also said that the movie will start at 8 pm
Fedele said about 10,000 candies were given out at the trick-or-treaters last year. With an expected increase in attendance, he said the city will have about 12,000 candy bars this year.
“We just wanted to provide another option for participants to come out to trick or treat, show off their costumes and have a fun night at the park,” she said of the event.
