Shreveport participated in the 38th annual National Block Party Tuesday night with a record number of block parties recorded across the city. National Night Out is an initiative born out of the National City Watch Association, which was created in 1981 to:
provide community watchdog groups with the information, resources and assets they need to stay informed, interested, involved and motivated within the community. natw.org
National Night Out, founded in 1984, was created to foster positive police-citizen relations, among neighbors on your street or block, and to develop a knowledge of your neighborhood to know if something is amiss . If you know your neighbors, it’s much easier to help each other and help fight crime in your neighborhood.
Shreveport City and Parish officials made the rounds visiting island parties throughout the city, meeting with residents and enjoying a beautiful night of island parties with great food, games, bounce houses bounce and even live music.

KEEL news visited several parties throughout the night, even catching up with Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator in the Acadiana Place subdivision enjoying a catfish. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith, Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese, Jr. and Shreveport City Marshal James Jefferson even participated in a karaoke contest, with Chief Wayne Smith winning first prize.
