CARMICHAEL, CA (MPG) – With great joy, Carmichael last weekend celebrated the 113th anniversary of the former colony.
Almost 800 residents and visitors enjoyed the party. A tradition for more than 60 years, Founder’s Day began as a Chamber of Commerce promotion to commemorate Daniel Carmichael’s real estate company of 1909. Carmichael Recreation and Park District now presents the annual celebration at Carmichael Park.
Children were swinging on bounce houses; the buccaneers blew cannons; merchants promoted services and political parties registered voters. Cappuccino Cruisers Car Club filled much of the park with classic automobiles. The event also provided a platform for volunteer advocates of Measure G, a voter-approved park funding ballot initiative, to call for support.
Del Campo High School’s 16-member Varsity Cheer Team was the highlight of the youth performers. The Founder’s Day appearance was useful practice for the US State Cheerleading Competition that her school will host on November 12.
Fellow performers included cheerleaders from El Camino High School, martial arts athletes from Kovar and dancers from K and M Studio. Rock group Southbound played for the afternoon crowd.
The festivities were sponsored by Buck Family Automotive; Mission Oaks and Carmichael Parks and Recreation Districts; Supervisor Rich Desmond and the Cappuccino Cruisers.
