August 20: The 2022 Mentor CityFest was in full swing, with live music, food, activities, games and more on August 20, the final day of the two-day event.
The festival was held at the Mentor Civic Center and featured a variety of musical acts and performances by a wide variety of entertainers, all taking center stage in the Mentor Civic Center Amphitheater.
On August 19, Pearl Jam tribute band The Ten Band took the stage to pay tribute to the grunge style of music and were followed by the Stone Temple Pilots Tribute, STP2.
On August 20, Mentor CityFest welcomed the Deepwood Idol for the first time. The multi-talented program showcased the diverse talents of people with developmental disabilities in an effort to raise awareness of the programs of the Developmental Disabilities Board/Deepwood of Lake County while celebrating the skills of people with disability
It was followed by performances from Sunrise Jones and 90s alternative rock legends the Spin Doctors.
“Everybody worked really hard to put it together,” said Ronnie Tiedman, Operator 2 of the city’s Mentor Parks Department. “The Parks Department works really hard to put the event together and we’re excited for everyone to come out for some good old fashioned family fun.”
CityFest also included a Kids Zone that featured a variety of games for the little ones, including bounce houses, giant slides, a warrior race, obstacle course, rock wall, zip line, an extreme trampoline and a moving course of ninja warriors. Adults who wanted a little less juvenile entertainment could enjoy the Adult Zone beer trailer, cornhole and other party games, including an ax throwing area.
The Main Street Tent hosted several organizations and businesses that call Mentor home and allowed festival patrons the opportunity to partake in the goods and services their neighborhood has to offer.
The festival featured food from more than 20 vendors, including favorites like sausage sandwiches, funnel cakes and lemonade.
The Mentor CityFest parade left Shore Middle School at 10am. Aug. 20 and arrived at the festival grounds via Hopkins, Center Street and Civic Center Boulevard. The parade featured the Mentor High School Band, the City of Mentor float and over 100 additional groups.
