It’s Labor Day weekend! But that’s not all: Here are five fun things happening in the Erie region September 1-8 for families.

1. Erie Otters
The Erie Otters season kicks off this weekend with a triple weekend of hockey at the Erie Insurance Arena! Three preseason games are scheduled: Friday’s game is against Hamilton and Saturday and Sunday’s games are against Saginaw. You Otter will be there! September 2-4
2. Erie County Fair
The fair has been held all week, but Saturday ended with a bang: Saturday highlights a frog jumping competition, children’s tractor, a parade, rides and performances by magicians and dogs! September 3
3. German heritage festival
Come to the fun at the German Heritage Fest in St. Nick’s Grove! There is food, music, dancing, merchandise and of course beer, all in honor of celebrating German culture. Activities for children include Magic Steve, bounce houses (including one for toddlers), new train ride and face painting. September 3 and 4
4. FREE: Guided garden tours and live music at Goodell Gardens
Spend the afternoon at Goodell Gardens: Enjoy a free guided tour of the garden, then stay to enjoy classical music. The kids can explore the trails and enjoy the grassy areas, and you can relax in the beautiful location – a true regional treasure! September 4
5. FREE entrance to the Bicentenary Tower
The first Tuesday of the month is FREE entry to the Bicentenary Tower! September 6
