Fall arrives in Macomb Township with all the excitement of a public celebration Saturday, when the township’s Parks and Recreation Department hosts a Fall Fun Fest at Macomb Corners Park.
The Fall Fun Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park, located at 19449 25 Mile Road in Macomb Township. There is no cost to attend the event.
“The movie, pizza eating contest, pumpkin patch, cornhole tournament and demolition derby are all new this year,” said Lacey Ward, Macomb Township Recreation Programmer. “Fall is a great time of year for outdoor fun. We felt the addition of the new activities will add to the Fall Festival feel.”
Homemade scarecrows for the contest are due to the Macomb Township Recreation Center at 20699 Macomb St. in Macomb Township on September 23. All participants will receive a free pass to the recreation center. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place finishers at 12:30pm on the Sellers Subaru stage during the festival.
The Fall Fun Fest will include a pumpkin patch, and the first 300 kids will have the opportunity to pick and paint a pumpkin. Kids can also visit a petting zoo and participate in a Power Wheels demolition derby. Entry to the derby requires pre-registration by September 23 and a $5 fee. The derby starts at 10.30am on September 24 and the prize is a new Power Wheels.
“Participants ages 5 to 10 will be given two balloons to attach to the front and back of their vehicle. Once the derby begins, children will try to pop or dislodge the competitor’s balloons. Once both balloons are come loose or blow out, the power wheel and its driver will be removed from the track,” Ward said.
A series of bouncy houses and activities will be part of the event. Some include an inflatable bobbing for apples, inflatable 55-foot obstacle course, inflatable ax throw, and inflatable T-ball. The obstacle course is recommended for ages 6 and up, and the apple swing game is for ages 8 and up. Ward said for goalies and games, parks and playgrounds allow children of similar ages to participate together. A children’s area has also been created for children under the age of 5.
“The inflatable obstacle course, games and bouncers, along with the scarecrow contest and petting zoo, are always a hit and will be back this year,” Ward said.
From 11:40 a.m. there will be a Jet’s Pizza eating contest. Registration will take place on site and there is no cost to participate. The contest will be divided into age categories, with the 8 and under age group starting at 11:45 a.m., 9-15 at noon and 16 and over at 12:45 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each round. .
“Each age group will host up to 15 contestants,” Ward said. “If there are more than 15, the contestants will be given a number and the participants will be chosen lottery style. We will be hosting this contest at the Sellers Subaru stage. The winner will be chosen by whoever finishes first or has eaten the most at the end of the 10 minutes.”
The movie “Hocus Pocus” will play in the park on a loop starting at 10 a.m., and the Clinton-Macomb Public Library will host a storybook walk during the festival.
PKSA Karate Macomb Township will host demonstrations every half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
