Doug Jones, a former Democratic senator from Alabama, will headline an Oct. 8 fundraiser for the Mahoning County Democratic Party.
The event is called an “old-fashioned, family-friendly” barbecue and bonfire. The location of the event has not been announced.
“The goal is to do something different,” said Mahoning Democratic Chairman Christopher Anderson. “I’m tired of suit and tie fundraisers. I get them, but they’re so much more fun. We’ll have a barbecue and a bonfire with ice cream and bounce houses for the kids.”
Tickets are $75 for adults, with no admission fee for children. Additionally, a private reception with Jones, which includes two tickets to the barbecue, is $450.

Jones was elected to the US Senate in 2017 in a special election in heavily Republican Alabama, beating Roy Moore, the GOP candidate who is alleged to have sexually assaulted several women, by 2%. When Jones ran for a full term in 2020, he lost by more than 20 percent to Republican Tommy Tuberville, a former Auburn University football coach.
Last January, President Joe Biden tapped Jones to help with the successful nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court.
