Walpole’s Harvest Festival is looked forward to every year and marks the start of autumn for many in the town. Taking place this year on October 1st, a gloomy Saturday, the festival significantly brightened the day for all the families who made their way to Stone Field for the day of fun.
“Typically, it’s a smaller Walpole day,” explained Walpole Recreation Director Brendan Croak, who thanked Walpole residents for attending. “The idea is to give the community a centralized place to come down and enjoy the weather. We added a touch-a-truck element, which is new. We have bounce houses, it’s a county fair-style event for the city.”
The county fair element meant there would be increased entertainment and activities for the festival, and they were.
Attendees had plenty to choose from. There were vendors selling everything from pearl keychains to homemade sweets. Many of Walpole’s favorite organizations had tents with information about their projects, including the Walpole Public Library and the Walpole Robotics Group. Meanwhile, children ran around with face paint of their favorite hobbies or characters, thanks to the artistic talent of Gina Tarara-Woods.
Silver City Band covered classic rock and vibrant country, as well as blues. Playing “the greatest hits of all time,” their cover of “Redneck Woman” fired up the field with high energy. Meanwhile, children played Frisbee and ran around while others went looking for inflatables and games.
“I’m glad people came out considering the weather,” Croak commented. “I’m happy to continue with community events and look forward to Walpole Day.”
