RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – This Sunday, Swim for Change is hosting a fundraising event to support its mission. Swim for change it was last year and they offer swimming lessons that will make a difference in children’s lives. Their mission allows swim instructors the ability to travel to foreign countries and teach underprivileged and abused children to swim.
On their first trip last year, they taught 50 children, and this year’s mission has tripled and 150 children will have this opportunity.
So, to raise funds to go to Guatemala, The Well Village at Rancharrah will be having a Christmas in July event. The nonprofit will feature local vendors, bounce houses, Santa, a live band and an auction.
Swim for Change founder Audrey Wood shared these lessons that allow children the opportunity to gain confidence,
“When we came to Guatemala last year and saw the children and they got to be children for the first time in their lives, more than half of them could swim an Olympic-sized pool in a week. It will be a really fun day for you and the family to come out and support a cause that is so worthwhile,” Wood said.
Swim for Change will head to Guatemala next Christmas.
Tickets for the event are only fifteen dollars.
The event is on July 31 from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.
