It’s the last weekend before school starts and that means lots of back-to-school events! Leesburg is hosting a fun run, Mount Dora is celebrating with a concert and fireworks, Eustis is hosting its annual back-to-school party, and even Hogwarts is recruiting at Lake Square Mall.

Back to School Festival and Market

Stop by the Whimsy Market Back to School Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sunsational Farms, 40541 Roger Giles Road in Umatilla.

They will have over 40 vendors, carnival games, live music, bounce houses, food trucks and more.

Fun back to school race

Join us for a fun run to support the Leesburg High School Jacket Cares team on Saturday at Venetian Gardens Park. Time starts at 7:30 am for the 5K and 8:30 am for the mile.

ECG screenings are available on Who We Play For and there will be a 65-inch TV raffle for registered participants. Virtual option available.

Water Day and Food Truck event

Stop by Sunsational Farms on Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 2pm for a fun day in the water with a water bounce house, water slide and water toys. The Farm Food Truck will also be open for some delicious treats.

Hogwarts in the square

You won’t need the Knight Bus or Platform 9 3/4 to visit Hogwarts this month. Head to Lake Square Mall at 1pm on Sunday and take in different classes from Hogwarts alumni. Learn how to use your wand, mix potions and more.

We encourage you to dress in the house colors of your choice! If you don’t have a house yet, visit our sorting hat and we’ll match you to the right Hogwarts house!

“Hairspray”

Living Drama Theater in Eustis opens the Broadway musical “Hairspray” on Friday and runs through Aug. 7.

The cast includes Ashley McBride and Victoria Duarte as Tracy Turnblad, Murry Krasnoff as Edna Turnblad, David Row as Wilbur Turnblad, AJ Riggs as Link Larkin, Katie Logue as Penny Pingleton, Audra Jillian as Prudy Pingleton, Jasmine Scott as Motormouth Mabel; Kenyatta Edwards as Little Inez; Aidan Cocchiana as Seaweed, Mackenzie Lawrence as Amber Von Tussle, Libby Lou as Velma Von Tussle, Scott Durante as Mr. Pinky, Dean Douglas as Corny Collins, Charlotte Jardine as gym teacher, headmistress and matron; Troy Trainer as Mr. Spitzer and Varonda Collins and Nicole Ruby as Dynmites.

“Singing in the Rain”

Mount Dora’s IceHouse Theater presents the charming musical comedy, “Singin’ in the Rain,” running through August 7. The show on August 5th at 20:00 is a show performed in American Sign Language.

The cast includes JT Diaz as silent film star Don Lockwood; Kevin Kriegel is the cheerful comic relief, Cosmo Brown; Megan Wheeler plays the fresh-faced ingenue Kathy Selden’ and Sheradin Jansen is the sharp bimbo, Lina Lamont.

Supporting roles are played by James Simpson, Olivia DeMarco, Robb Ross, Kirk Klemash, Roy Hamlin, Sally Wade, Molly Hicks and Christian Perkins. An ensemble of singing dancers perform various roles throughout the story as fans, journalists, studio assistants and film performers. They are Kasea Seabrook, Marann ​​Curtis, Nate Childers, Ryan Bishop, Molly Jarvis, Emily Jarvis, Ellen Shaw, Victoria Lane, Kaelen Segers, Mackendrick Zavitz, Riley Wickson and Sarah Wade.

The show is directed by IceHouse Managing Artistic Director Darlin Barry with musical direction by Robb Ross, choreography by Barbara Hartwig and Sally Gage, scenic design by Buddy Fales, costume design by Anna Maria Muller and lighting design by Philip Lupo.
